Wonderful CD that features La Folia as it progresses through the ages, from 1490 to the late 17th century. The first piece, composed in 1490, is undoubtably "fleshed out" by Jordi Savall, but nonetheless his interpretation seems authentic. It is a tremendously exciting piece. The later folias composed by Corelli and Marin are more stately and were no doubt composed for the court. They too are beautiful pieces. La Folia is one of the most remarkable musical phrases to have ever emerged from Western music and this CD is a wondrous exploration of that theme.
