Free Music Notes for Lady Sings The Blues (1972 Film)Free Music Review: Ross Was Born To Sing These Songs Hit: 5 Stars
No matter what you think of Diana Ross and her over blown ego, her performances on this soundtrack recording, is an dazzling display of jazz singing at its earthy best. The play list here is impressive with songs like "You've Changed," "Fine And Mellow," God Bless The Child" and the execution on most of these famous Holiday tunes is exquisite. Ross' voice has never sounded better and it magically transcends the decades, back to a time when the heartbreak and dispair of a whole race of people was played out in songs scratched onto the surface of 78 RPM records.Diana Ross was roundly criticized when this project was first launched by Motown, but after aptly proving herself as a gifted actress with her academy award nomination for her performance as Holiday, and her critically acclaimed interpretation of Holiday's signature songs, she has managed a legitiamate claim to a portion of these tunes as her own.
Free Music Review: My favorite Diana Ross record Hit: 5 Stars
I just love this soundtrack.I never herd of Billy Holiday untill I see this movie and played the album. Diana Ross never sounded better, and after buying some Billy Holiday's records, Diana did put alittle of her magic into her own beutifull voice.Billy Holiday wrote alot of these song's on the album like, "Don't Explain,God Bless the Child," and "Fine and Mellow." All of these records are classic's,and Holiday was finally voted into the rock and roll hall of fame last week.I also enjoy the "Love Theme"by Michael Legrand and"Good Morning Heartache" the single released from the album. My Favorite Dialogue in the movie is Big Ben.It's the funniest part of the movie, and its on the record. After almost 30 years I still enjoy Diana Ross's Masterpiece.
Free Music Review: Favorite Soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
This has been one of my favorite movies since it came out when I was 16. My original vinyl of the soundtrack had developed lots of scratches, pops and hisses from years of use, so I was thrilled to be able to replace it with a CD. The music is great and, if you've seen the film, the included dialogue aids in moving the story along. The first half of the CD is a mixture of dialogue and songs while the second half is all songs.
I know this isn't much of a review. I'm not a reviewer and I'm not a particularly knowledgeable music person so I can only say, "Watch the movie. If you like the music, buy this soundtrack!"
Free Music Review: Diana Ross is incredible Hit: 5 Stars
In my opinion, (surely due to strong bias because I have been listening to this album since I was a little girl) this album/DVD contains some of the absolute best versions of Billie Holiday songs ever recorded. Diana Ross exquisitely captured the perfect tempo(i), inflection, phrasing, and dynamics for every song (not to mention her incredible acting performance as well.) The movie is one that I can watch over and over and over again and always be captivated.
Free Music Review: Lady Diana Hit: 5 Stars
Diana Ross did her thing on this album and film. I love this soundtrack ,because you can really feel the pain in Diana's voice which gives you the pain in Billie's life. It also gives you dialouge from the movie, which shows you why Diana was nominated for an oscar[which was stole from her and given to Liza Minneli ]. This soundtract and film is what seperated Diana from supreme to susperstar.
