Free Music Notes for Long Walk to FreedomFree Music Review: great, just what you're looking for Hit: 4 StarsA fine album that gives the essence of the South African "mbube" style that offers some great variety due to the various guests on the songs. The re-works of Paul Simon's two songs from Graceland are very good. Melissa Etheridge offers a nice, soulful, gospel-esque voice to "Diamonds on the Soles of Shoes" that is right up there with Paul Simon's singing. The song is missing the great guitar that was heard on Graceland, but does not lack overall.
My personal favorite was the song "Mbube", the precursor to and original the "Lion Sleeps Tonight" song; I enjoyed the song when I heard it in "Coming to America"; it is very soulful. The finest part is the bluesy guitar that Taj Mahal offers in the song to jazz it up.
Free Music Review: Sweet strong honey voices.... Hit: 5 StarsI love these guys virtuosity, but when they're demoted to backing singers, it doesn't seem right.
Free Music Review: great music Hit: 5 StarsNice variety of songs while still keeping with that "special sound" that no ones does better!
Free Music Review: Long Walk to Freedom Hit: 4 StarsEver since their emergence on Paul Simon's Graceland, the unique harmonies and rhythms have kept me enthtralled. The notable thing about this CD is how their famous guests adapt to their sound, choice of material, and blend is solid. Some collaborations work better than others. Mellissa Ethridge and Natalie Merchant are two standouts. This a worthwhile introduction this group.
Free Music Review: wow Hit: 4 StarsIf you like A capella work this is a great addition to your collection.
