well there was some criticism of the soundtrack of this film herein india that inspite of being a period film ,the songs had plenty of bass & modern instrumentation . But the music is quite good yet..it does take some time to grow on you maybe after a couple of listens .the best songs are probably 'Radha kaise'& the motivational 'Mitwa' . surprising to find that another good song 'Chale Chalo' isnt mentioned in the track listing above on this page. But whats special about this soundtrack is that unlike most other bollywood films ,the songs dont seem out of place in the story & dont hamper the narrative.
For anyone who wants to listen to some more previous works of AR Rahman ,my personal favourite soundtracks of 'Roja ' & 'Dil Se' are also worth checking out .

There is one song in this album where the tune appears to be lifted from the Youssou N'Dour song, "Tourista", from his Guide album (1994). Still, the mix is quite captivating.
