Free Music Review: THIS IS THE CD...

I've been waiting for Ms. Hathaway to make. I've been a fan for years, but with the exception of "The Song Lives On" with Joe Sample, Ms. Hathaway's projects always seemed uneven to me. I was always left feeling like something was missing, even with her birthright, that brilliant voice of hers, it seemed like some of the tracks on her projects weren't on par with her vocal ability. As far as I'm concerned, she sings rings around damn near everyone, but I just wasn't feeling her like I thought I would.
Well, I'm happy to say, she shut me the LLL up with "Self Portrait"! Every single track from "Let Go" all the way to "Tragic Inevitability" is outstanding... in my humble opinion, of course. Brava!!! I'll go as far to say this is probably the best release of 2008--yeah, I know it's only June, but y'all know what the industry is pushing these days. Well done!

I'm speechless. I've listened to Self Portrait all day. I'm still blasting "Breathe" as I write from my home office...windows open...I know the cops may come soon. LOL
Beautiful...I am an OLD young (33 year old) Lalah fan. I've been listening from highschool...and she is just amazing. "Self Portrait" is very introspective. I would also recommend not driving...this IS THINKING MUSIC. "On Your Own" is a great song to have when going through a breakup. I felt really strong after listening to it. Like its gonna be ok. Im gonna be ok. When songs make you change your mind about life...THATS DEEP.
NO ONE WRITES MUSIC LIKE THIS...EVERY SONG..empowering, requires inwardness, its a smart person's CD.

The new Lalah Hathaway is one of the best CDs released this year. I can't stop listening to this CD! I will have to agree that this CD is the most cohesive CD she has released. This is the CD that she will have to top the next time out...Soul oozes out of each track. And the lyrics...wow, man they are so retrospective/personal/reflective but not to the point that one can not relate. She has made me think about relationships, life, etc. since listening to this CD...check out the tracks "for always," "That was then," "On my own," "What goes around," and "breathe." Thank U Ms. Hathaway for giving us music lovers a CD that does not insult our intelligence. This CD is what soul music is about..Free Music Review: Love, Love, Love this CD-one of her best to date

I have been a Lalah Hathaway fan for years since her debut R&B album. During the years, the course of her career it steered more to Jazz. I do have an appreciation for jazz and her collaberation with Joe Sample was great. This CD revisits her beginning of R & B music without ignoring the jazz influences and her evolving as an artist. This album easily has more than 4 favorites and I am sure you will enjoy it too. Because this album is released on a more independent label, the marketing money is reserved and maybe not available. Definitely pick this up. You won't be disappointed. It's easy listening whether at a private moment or relaxing moment it's the perfect piece to add to the mood.Free Music Review: Lalah's Self Portrait

One of the most outstanding things about Lalah Hathaway, is her ability to transit a melody to a destination that's by far exciting and unique!
Her phraseology is incomparable and her delivery is spell bounding...when it comes to carrying a tune, she owns it once she's placed her stamp on it!
Her level of musicianship is beyond measure!
and deserves much attention.
I only anticipate as everyone one else her upcoming offering!
It is sure to be nothing short of amazement and wonder...
But don't just take it from me, see for yourself and get the record!
