Free Music Notes for SacramentFree Music Review: A Catchy Hook in Your Bleeding Gut Hit: 5 Stars
After taking a few albums to establish their modern update of classic thrash and death metal, Lamb of God have reached the top of their game. This album is jampacked with maturing songwriting ideas and increasing instrumental prowess. Sacrament is a little less dramatic, but much more solid, than the nearly-masterful Ashes of the Wake. The band's crowning glory is still their fearsome rhythm section, with terrifyingly precise drummer Chris Adler and the lowdown gutbucket bass of John Campbell (he's so low that maybe only Satan can fully hear him). Guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler are improving noticeably, especially with their solos and the creativity of their thrash riffs. Randy Blythe's vocals continue to be a bit of a drawback, because he sounds pretty stereotypical when he stays in his usual guttural cookie monster growl. However, Blythe is showing signs of greater excitement when he decides to stretch beyond his normal range, and he is certainly rising above the style of today's standard metal screamer. The politics of Blythe's lyrics are still muddled, though his sheer angry misanthropy and anti-establishment rants are getting pretty interesting.
Lamb of God's growth as songwriters can be heard in two extra noteworthy tracks here. "Redneck" adds a sly southern rock twist to a blistering riff, over Blythe's diatribe about a certain highly-placed (ahem) redneck; while the turgid slow burn of "Descending" offers great drama and a growing sense of dynamics. One recurring problem on Lamb of God's previous albums was that songs would become sluggish and repetitive after the initial riffs outlived their usefulness, but here that problem is mostly avoided through more creative arrangements, except in parts of "Walk With Me in Hell" (which frankly is not a good choice for album opener), and "Blacken the Cursed Sun." However, the band is becoming much better at adding occasional quiet passages and creative effects, which make their usual heaviness stand out much more strongly. Examples include the savage one-two punch of "Forgotten (Lost Angels)" and "Requiem," plus the accurately-titled piledrivers "Foot to the Throat" and "More Time to Kill." Like the greatest long-lived metal bands, Lamb of God have now transcended their category, and are in a category by themselves. This is the new standard of pure American metal. [~doomsdayer520~]
Free Music Review: Twice as good as Ashes Hit: 5 Stars
For some reason, I'm the only person in the world who believes Ashes of the Wake was a huge let-down. With a few exceptions, every song from AOTW sounded like a crowd-pleaser (radio biscuit). Maybe that's because it followed what I used to believe was Lamb of God's finest effort, As the Palaces Burn. To me, Sacrament replaces ATPB as their masterpiece.
Breakdowns have been replaced mostly by shredding solos; and this album has more solos than their previous four records combined. For me, that represents a triumph of METAL over METALCORE.
Each song is chock-full of riffs that grab ahold of your brain and don't let go. Ashes did have some decent riffs, but Sacrament offers riffs that destroy all previous efforts. (Buy the DVD edition and watch those guys play... it's impressive!)
The worst song from the album (Redneck) is better than the worst song from Ashes (Omerto). And I call it the worst song for the following reasons: over-use of cursing caters to the young-uns, repetitive chorus and riff mean instant accessibility and catchiness, and no soloing. However, Omerto straight-up bored me to tears.
Now considering the vocals, they aren't really necessary. Watch the DVD and you'll see how the vocals fit in with the music. They basically give the kids at the shows something along with which to shout. IMHO, the band could do without vocals. Now for the record, I will state that Randy has a fantastic metal voice... he's just not the reason why I listen to Lamb of God.
There are no standout tracks on the record, which means two things: 1) it's difficult to pick out favorites and 2) it's incredibly consistent in its quality. As I said before, I don't like the track Redneck, however the other 10 tracks receive a solid 5/5 rating.
To summarize, Sacrament is a collection of absolutely wonderful tracks, it's consistent with its offering, and it's a shredder's album. I've listened to Sacrament in its entirity at least five times today; and I love it more with each listen. It's just a little bit better than ATPB; but a monumental step above New American Gospel and Ashes of the Wake... in my opinion.
Free Music Review: Sacrament is definetly Pure American Metal!! Hit: 5 Stars
This album was a total headbanging!! Awesome guitar solo's, fast drmming and some drumming solo's, and Randy seems to sing faster and use his high-pitch screech more often. "Again We Rise", "Pathetic", "Beating On Death's Door", and "Blacken The Cursed Sun" are the best tracks in this cool album! "Redneck" was OK, but it wasn't really that heavy, Randy seems to use his clean vocals too.
1."Walk With Me In Hell" 10/10- Good way to begin the album, great guitar works, but Randy sang a little slow in this song.
2."Again We Rise" 11/10- I love this song! So addicting!! Awesome chorus, "RISE. Again we will riiise!" and love when he goes "F*** you, don't even try."
3."Redneck" 8.5/10- OK song, not that heavy like their other songs, but really catchy and groovy, the chorus was the best part and the ending got a little heavy.
4."Pathetic" 12/10- A perfect Lamb Of God song!! Nothing wrong! Really catchy too! "Pathetic! Wasted! Soulless! Compromised!" The beginning was good, and great guitar solo!
5."Foot To The Throat" 9.5/10- Drumming was great! Love how Randy sang here, but no solo.
6."Descending" 9.5/10- Good beginning, pretty good song and drumming was good too.
7."Blacken The Cursed Sun" 10/10- Groovy and catchy at beginning "Seize the darkened day, there's only Hell to pay." One of my favorites.
8."Forgotten (Lost Angels) 10/10- Awesome drumming! Catchy song, but short guitar solo.
9."Requiem" 9.5/10- Love how Randy sang his high-pitch screech here. Love solo!! But the speech part was useless.
10."More Time To Kill" 9/10- No solo, kinda boring, but the parts around ending was good.
11."Beating On Death's Door" 9/10- A fast, groovy, and catchy song! This is many people's favorites. "She's all yours, so deal with it!"
I don't get why a lot of people hate this album? So what Randy's vocals sounds like Metallica a little bit. So what?! They have faster drumming! 10 times better guitar works than back then! And Randy sings faster and his vocals is so catchy! GET THIS!! Great to listen!
Free Music Review: "Speaking endless words, long and empty" Hit: 5 Stars
Sacrament is not a Return-To-Form, It is in fact Musician Evolution at its best. In the past Lamb of God were more known for being Fast, Catchy & Violent, This is all intact. But the music as a whole has jumped up a major flight of stairs. For instance 'Again We Rise' not only shows an almost hauningly slower paced guitar lick but a creepy echo style of vocals not seen on other LoG albums. The track 'Redneck' having an obvious Southern Rock/Metal sound has some excellent Panteraish vox and riffs not far off from Dime Bags common rhythm sections.
The band as a whole sounds better then ever. Both guitarists put down some fairly complex riffs and solos. For instance one of my favorite breakdowns by LoG ever on 'More Time To Kill' which seems to go on forever. The drums on Sacrament are as wild as ever, Chris' frantic double-bass work and general hyperactivity is well included through out the album. The bass, Though as usual on LoG albums is not well showcased because the guitar riffs are powerful and up front in your face, He has a few decent audible parts but none really amazing to be mentioned here.
Vocals, Alot of people were worried that Randy was changing his usual vocal style. Dont fret its included and improved. Possibly one of the most idolized metal vocalists in the scene at this moment Blythe does not let his fans down. His lyrics are intelligent and on point, Religon is a main focus point on Sacrament and he tears into it good and hard. The Echo'd yells and doubled shouts are a nice and different inclusion.

All in all, Sacrament is an excellent addition to any Lamb of God fan collection. For all you others I suggest giving the album a try, Even if you hadn't cared for LoG in the past. This album truely shows the evolution of a respected and well known band in the Metal Community and I can only see great things coming after this.
Free Music Review: Guaranteed To Make Your Head Bang Hit: 5 Stars
Man, I love Lamb Of God. They are one of the most talented and most amazing metal bands out there today. I even had the pleasure of seeing them on The Unholy Alliance Tour over the summer as well, and they were just flat out awesome. Their new album "Sacrament" is just absolutely amazing, and it's is their most experimental release thus far. From the opening bone chilling riffs of "Walk With Me In Hell" to the closing moments of "Beating On Death's Door", this album is guaranteed to make your head bang and hit you like a ton of bricks. Randy Blythe's vocals are more angrier, deeper, and varied throughout. He also sounds a bit like Phil Anselmo (Pantera) at times. Just listen to track three "Redneck", and you'll know what I mean. Guitarists Willie Alder and Mark Morton continue to deliver more great shredding riffs and tear with sheer anger and confidence. They even incorporate more guitar solos throughout on this album which is a good thing. John Campbell's bass lines are solid and well heard, and of course Chris Alder's double bass drumming throughout is very well complexed and lethal as always. Every song on here is great, but my favorites are "Redneck", "Walk With Me In Hell", "Again We Rise", "Pathetic", "More Time To Kill", "Blacken The Cursed Sun", "Forgotten (Lost Angels)", "Foot To The Throat", and "Beating On Death's Door". All in all, this is another great album from one of modern metal's best bands. So anyways, if you're a fan of Lamb Of God, metal, or just good music in general, "Sacrament" is all yours to keep. So do yourself a favor, go out buy this album now, heck buy it along with the new Slayer album too. LONG LIVE LAMB OF GOD!! LONG LIVE TRUE HEAVY METAL!!
