Free Music Notes for SacramentFree Music Review: Another masterpiece from LOG Hit: 5 Stars
If you are Metallica, how do you follow up "Master of Puppets"? If you are Megadeth, how do you top "Peace Sells"? If you are Slayer, how do you live up to "Seasons in the Abyss"?
That's the kind of pressure LOG faced after their incredible "Ashes of the Wake" was unleashed upon the masses. "AOTW" is a modern-day metal classic. But LOG have followed up their crowning musical achievement as well (or better) than the aforementioned bands did.
"Sacrament" starts where "AOTW" left off and adds some new twists. Most notable on this new disc is the ever-expanding vocal range and stylings of singer Randy Blythe. Randy is really starting to find himself as a vocalist. You can hear the confidence in his voice. He's as brutal as ever, but he's also going in some new directions here and, I dare say, even coming close to adding in a chorus to a song here or there.
Mark Morton and Will Adler have evolved as well. Just when you thought their mind-bending riffs couldn't get any more complex they take it to another level. No metal band anywhere boasts two guys with this much creativity and ability. They have an uncanny ability to excel where most other "extreme metal" acts fail: they can make extremely fast music sound interesting and melodic while retaining the brutality and aggression that makes this style of music appealing to so many people.
Chris Adler is Chris Adler. What can be said about him that has not already been said? You know what to expect from him by now and he doesn't disappoint. He adds more to a song than any current metal drummer today. His sense of timing and dynamics is unparalleled.
"Sacrament" isn't "Ashes of the Wake." I don't know if LOG can ever match the brilliance of "AOTW" and I don't know if anyone ever will. But LOG have still made an album that is better, more creative and more appealing to metal fans than any other act out there right now is capable of producing. If this is LOG when they are mediocre, it's still a cut above the rest.
Free Music Review: lamb of god continue to impress Hit: 5 Stars
Why is everyone calling lamb of god a new band? They have been out for more than ten years and this release, Sacrament, marks their 5th record (4 under lamb of god, 1 as burn the priest).I don't believe these things qualify them any longer as a new band.
This release is better, and very different, than their previous effort Ashes Of The Wake. First of all, the drumming (already amazing) has been stepped up even to more notches, if you can believe it. The production isn't any where as clean as AOTW. While not quite as dirty sounding as As The Palaces Burn, it's still pretty raw sounding.
The guitars are a lot more complicated now and much more groovy. The album WILL make your head BANG. The most noticable change to the guitars is the use of guitar solos, something LOG rarely did on previous albums. Unlike most bands, LOG are capable of writing and playing solos that fit the feel of the songs. They never let them outshine the rest of the song, nor do they use the solos to [...] their guitars in sad attempts to see how fast they can shred.
Perhaps the most noticable change in the LOG sound (well, do they really have a sound? Every album sounds different) is Randy's vocals. Clearly, Phil Anselmo (pantera singer) is an influence on him because he sounds just like him at several parts through out the album. You can understand him more and he uses his spoken word voice a lot more.
The lyrics have gone through a slight change. There seems to be more lyrics to each song now (well, track one doesn't have that much lyrics) and they continue to be well written while adding in even more cursing.
All in all, this is a great album. If you don't like LOG, then this album won't do anything to change your opinion. If you do like them, then i'm not sure why you wouldn't like this one either. One of the year's best albums. Go buy it.
Free Music Review: Fantastic Hit: 5 Stars
Sacrament is Lamb of God's fourth full length studio album and perhaps their best to date. The musicianship is of the highest standard; head and shoulders above many of their peers, their influences and their own earlier albums.
The album is chocked full of career highlights from the brooding opener `Walk with Me in Hell,' or the anthemic chant along `Blacken The Cursed Sun,' to furiously catchy single `Redneck,' nothing is ever short of amazing, the band have never sounded so good. The album is such a step up its really difficult to stop listening to it over and over again when you first hear it.
Everything about this album just clicks, a trend started with 2004's Ashes of the Wake. When its fast and heavy, its fast and heavy in just the right way. When its dark and brooding, its dark and brooding in just the right way and so on.
Even the production is amazing, while the Producer named Machine may be criticized for making Ashes of the Wake a little too safe or overproduced, nothing but compliments are deserved for the dark and very heavy sound on Sacrament.
Every band member ups their game on this album, better bass, greater variety, more guitar solos and unbelievable quality drumming. Chris Adler is a fantastic drummer and brings an energy to the music that would surely be missing without him, as well as being the business brains and motivational focus of the band he is musical backbone and a huge part of what makes any song sound like Lamb of God.
I can't recommend the Sacrament enough; There are no weak songs on this album, there are no performances that feel phoned in and there are no guitar solos that sound anything less than the best solo that could possibly work in any given song. If you have even a passing interest in Lamb of God you really need to check out this album.
Free Music Review: New Kings of METAL! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of metal for about 20 years now. A couple years ago, I was getting tired of alot of it. I was constantly wasting money trying to find some new good bands. There was a lack of originality in these newer bands. Pantera had broken up. Dave Mustaine was ready to disband Megadeth. A new Slayer album was long overdue. Was there any hope? On a whim, I bought an album from a band called Lamb of God titled As the Palaces Burn. On the cover was a sticker saying Revolver Magazine album of the year. I was curious. I bought the cd and it blew me away. Since then I have obtained the Burn the Priest cd and New American Gospel and bought the new cds since then the day they come out. From what I hear, this band evolves in a positive direction with each release. I was not for sure if they could top Ashes of the Wake, but I was wrong. Sacrament may not be exactly what the casual Lamb of God fan was expecting. To the true Lamb of God fan, Sacrament is all that and more. Songs like Redneck and Pathetic are catchy as hell. I believe what makes the band distinct from others are the guitarists Mark and Willy. While most metal bands are composing songs filled with nothing but powercords, they take it to the next level with riffs that are complex and difficult to play. This band challenges themselves to be better players. I have been a Slayer fan for many many years, and for me to say Sacrament is better than Slayer's new outing Christ Illusion says something. Lamb of God has taken over the thrash scene!
Free Music Review: Great album Hit: 5 Stars
This album is more raw, less-catchy and more vicious than Ashes of the Wake. I guess people just want something to cry about everytime their band goes on a major label. Ashes of the Wake was a good record but maybe just a little too clean sounding for Lamb of God standards. This album is just a non-stop vicious assault and I don't think its such a drastic change for Lamb of God like people are expecting. Its just a natural progression. I don't see what the big deal is witht he production... I think the album has a nice apocalyptic, darker sound with the way it ended up.
Randy sounds more vicious than ever esp. on songs like Pathetic, Again We Rise and Forgotten (Lost ANgels). Hell, this album finally has something Lamb of God fans have been want to hear...
The only bad thing I could say about this album is maybe Randy's vocal mix was a little bit too low.
Otherwise check these guys out on Gigantour... Dave Mustaine might have to pull out songs from Rust In Peace and Peace Sells to compete with the vicious assault of Lamb of God! But then tryin to compete with the brilliance of Opeth isn't an easy act. Dave Mustaine earns my respect for putting his balls on the table unlike Metallica when it comes to openers.
To the opener who is whining about bad follow ups... go sit on your thumb and get over it!
