Free Music Notes for SacramentFree Music Review: best album so far Hit: 5 Stars
Despite there being a marked difference in sound to all their other 3 albums, this is no bad thing. My personal opinion is that the only reason this album is getting any bad reviews is because those reviewers know it will be this album that breaks the band properly, and that there won't be an exclusivity with the fans.
Randy's vocals are much easier to pick out - it sounds like there is more clarity in the vocal tracks than before. His vocal range has also increased beyond the death metal-ish growl he used in the past. It isn't that his style has changed, but rather his technique is better and can cover different styles - not in a metalcore way though (i.e. scream then growl).
The guitars are very different to before as there is more going on. Despite the heavy riffing there is lead guitar constantly interweaving, but not in the same way that Slayer do. There is still the same bass weight on the tracks as before but with more clarity again.
The song writing has also improved, and the tracks are all distinct to each other. I think it highlights that the band have matured and have become confident enough to try new ideas. Black Label will always be a crowd pleaser but I can see tracks off Sacrament becoming new encores.
Free Music Review: The True Face of Pure American Metal Returns 4.5/5 Hit: 5 Stars
Sacrament is Lamb of God's latest album, and thus far their most experimental. Randy's voice has become deeper and more varied. In my opinion his voice on Sacrament sounds the way it does live; a bit deeper than in previous recordings such as "New American Gospel" or "As the Palaces Burn". Guitar solos are much more frequent throughout the album. To those that say LoG does not incorporate guitar solos into their songs, check out tracks like "The Subtle Arts of Murder and Persuasion" or "Remorse is for the Dead". Finally, Chris Adler keeps LoG's lethal assault going with his awe-inspiring drumming skills. Lamb of God is without a doubt loaded with talent. Debating otherwise by saying Sacrament is disappointing is only foolish. As was previously stated, how does a band topple the likely crown jewel of their albums? By working hard to create a new one. People should come to realize this. Bands experiment in hopes of creating an even better sound. To those that might be disappointed with this album because they're comparing an awesome band to corporate sellouts such as Metallica, get off your high horse and out of your mother's basement. Great metal bands have come into existence since the 1980s, and Lamb of God is one of them.
Free Music Review: lamb of god continue to prove that outstanding metal can exist on a major label Hit: 5 Stars
sacrament rules as hard as any previous lamb of god albums, and honestly rules harder than pretty much anything i've heard all year. there's some experimentation going on here, a little broadening of horizons, but it all sounds amazing and is totally metal and heavy as hell. the production is more organic and gritty than ashes, which amazingly-produced as it was was a tad sterile for my taste. sacrament sounds absolutely enormous. randy's vocals are in top form, the man sounds like hell on this album. i know the production's partly responsible but this man must seriously have the largest chest cavity on earth.
fans know what to expect here and should buy it without question. elitist pricks will hate on it because they're on mtv and will miss out on a fantastic album. this is a killer record, and that's coming from a guy who wouldn't listen to shadows fall if you paid him, and would kill his own grandmother to hear the new anaal nathrakh. i'm probably way too stoned to be writing this right now but hell, i'm hoping to be the first review for bragging rights. f- it.
Free Music Review: Fattening the Lamb Hit: 5 Stars
Lamb of God moves to a major label (Epic), but no compromises here. Still the same brutal mix of thrash and metalcore; less fractured and jagged than their earlier material, but no less intense. Mix is bigger, denser, beefier than the streamlined Ashes of the Wake. This is especially apparent in epic opener Walk With Me in Hell, and the dark, soaring Blacken the Cursed Sun (which recalls recent DARK TRANQUILLITY). Randy's vocals are more varied and insane than ever, from guttural roars to almost blackish shrieks. Seems to be more multitracking on the vocals on some tracks as well, which is cool, although I could have done without some of the purer hardcore-style choruses. I feel bad for SLAYER - I expect Lamb of God blew them off the stage during their summer tour together, and this absolutely demolishes the mediocre Christ Illusion. Looking forward to hearing this new stuff live on Monday night (with OPETH!!!). 4.75/5.
Free Music Review: Get the one with the DVD!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Y'know, much hype had been made about Ashes - and it was good, but I didn't quite catch the "OMIGOD, best band ever!" frenzy a lot of other people did.
This one makes all the difference. A couple of years later, and Mastodon and Lamb of God have the two perceived best albums of the year yet again. I think I might actually have to go with LOG on this one, though. This album's amazing. Randy's getting better, and the rest of the gang showcase some really great musicianship here.
"Redneck" is the single, and "Blacken the Cursed Sun" may be another. I think I'd have to call "Again We Rise" my personal favorite, if for nothing but the last 30-40 seconds where a little solo riff is added that makes all the difference.
Also, one more thing:
Buy the one with the DVD. It is, by far, the best "EXTRA DVD!" I've gotten yet. You really get in there and get to know the band.
