Free Music Notes for Last of the BreedFree Music Review: Three Of The Greatest Singers/Songwriters ever. Hit: 5 Stars
I have only had this album for about a month, and have played it almost constantly daily. Merle, Willie and Ray have aged so well musically, that all sound better to me now than they did way back when I started listening to them as young men. May they all be around for many more years, and sing the songs their way, as they always have. It is obvious that Merle is happier now than he has been for a very long time. The happiness shows in his voice and the way he delivers his songs. I love this album!
Free Music Review: Just one more thing. . . Hit: 5 Stars
Not much more to say about this album, it's been said many times here -- just great!
However, I don't think anyone has mentioned the dual fiddles -- Johnny Gimble, for sure, but right beside him duetting throughout is the splendiferous Elana James, formerly (and occasionally still) of Hot Club of Cowtown. Really adds something extra! And check out her own CD, Elana James, also just out.
Free Music Review: Nothing Better Hit: 5 Stars
This cd set is only lacking about 5 or 6 more cd's from this group of country's greatest artists. The Last Of The Breed accurately describes these oustanding songs and these three performers who represent everything that country music is missing today. No mistake about it, there will probably never again be such talented singer-songwriters as Haggard and Nelson. Their artistry has never been plasticized by the over use of mixers, tuners, and store-bought songs.
Free Music Review: Good, old Country dance & gospel Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of the best CD set I have heard in a long time. It has wonderful country dance rhythms and good country gospel songs. The trio compliment each other - although I will say Merle Haggard does sound much older now. Real country swing and serious waltzes - good all time favorites for those of us who enjoy dancing. Great to just listen, too, as well. We could use more like this.
Free Music Review: Sweet Memories Hit: 5 Stars
Tho their voices may not be as supple, their singing is cowboy jazz and heartfelt melodies. Exquisite musicianship ( Buddy Emmons on steel, Charlie McCoy on harp, Johnny Gimble on fiddle and Boots Randolf on sax)and a great song selection. What stands out is the clarity and fullness of the recording and the production. They play this up in heaven but not down here on the radio.
