Free Music Notes for Under a Shady TreeFree Music Review: Confident, polished, yet every bit as fun as before Hit: 5 Stars
In the past year our family have gone from being Laurie Berkner newbies to Laurie Berkner junkies, thanks only in part to our now-2½ year old's enthusiasm for her work. Mom and Dad find themselves humming this stuff at wierd moments as well. We were eager, when we heard that a new CD was poised for 10/2002 release, but the previews for "Shady Tree" raised a red flag or two--what, there's ELECTRIC BASS on all the tracks? And a horn section on a bunch of 'em? Won't that dilute the fun, basic, energetic, punky-folky sound we've come to enjoy so on the previous 3 CDs? The answer is, not at all, you goofball! It's not laid on thickly at all--for instance, we get to hear Suzie open up a little with some jazzy piano, and "Chock-o-lot" absolutely sizzles with Laurie doing her torch-song, soulful belting over a horn section, but y'know, she's still singing about candy. Well, I think that's what she's singing about. It's what the kids hear, anyway. And I've got to say something about the packaging--along with lyrics, there are concise author's notes on each track (per usual), and some great photos. The photo-spread shot says it all--Laurie's prone on the stage floor, looking a little like Iggy, snarling away. It could be any rock-and-roller pic, I guess, except you can just about see what must be a stuffed monkey draped over an amp, in the background. That says it all. Buy. Enjoy. Your kids will love it too.
Free Music Review: For Adults that HATE 'KIDS' MUSIC Hit: 5 Stars
I first saw Laurie on the Today show when my son was about 9 months old. When he was older I bought this CD and we all LOVE it. We play it in the morning when we are getting breakfast and getting dressed. We play it in the car. I sing along to all the songs. You cant help it, its SO MUCH FUN! My son is now 15 months old and he just loves Laurie. We watch all her videos on Noggin and on the Noggin.com. I babysitt for an 8 year old and a five year old, and they both love her too. We would just listen to the radio, but when I listened to the lyrics of some songs it made me sick. And then when I heard my 8 year old singing these lyrics, I knew I needed an alternative. They say every song is their favorite, and they bellow out all the words in the car. Instead of watching TV we pop in the CD and dance and sing all over our house. We have added Victor Vito to our collection and we love that one, too.
This is a must have for kids and for adults who HATE kids music!
Free Music Review: Makes little ones get up & dance!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great CD! We searched on Amazong after seeing the "Move to the Music" mini-videos of Larie on Noggin (TV). If Charlotte could dance, she would! At 9 months that would be a feat, but for now she happily squeals and bounces up and down when the videos come on. When we play this in the van we often hear squeals of delight. I don't mind the music myself, but my husband & I have been fans of TMBG (They Might Be Giants) for years. (This is similar - not as good, but great for kids music.) After listening to the Little People's Animal Songs CD - this sounds like music for the gods. (Going to the Zoo will drive you insane!) Since Charlotte liked TMBG when they sent a musical "letter" on the Blue's Clues Bluestock episode, we may be breaking those CDs out for her to listen to also. If your child likes Laurie then I highly recommend giving TMBG a try.

My daughters like to listen to music at bedtime, so I got this CD for my daughters because they had heard and liked the songs "Song in My Tummy" and "This Hat" on Nick Jr. When you start the CD, the first song that plays is the title track "Under a Shady Tree". It's a very catchy and upbeat but sweet song. The kids love it. Even my husband likes this CD a lot and starts dancing - or trying to! ;) - when it comes on. Another song is "Drive My Car". It's really cute and funny at the end.
Laurie has a very nice voice that is perfect for kid's music, and she sounds like she is having fun while she is singing. If you've ever seen her on Nick Jr, you'll see that she also looks like it too.
If you or your kids have ever heard a Laurie Berkner song and liked it, you won't be disappointed in this CD. It's great.
Free Music Review: Our Family LOVES this CD Hit: 5 Stars
Laurie is back!! Yay, a new cd from our favorite kid's artist!!! I have been a Laurie fan since her first tape came out (and even before that!), and as each new album is released, I can't wait to hear the new tunes she will come up with. Under a Shady Tree's music is wonderful, fun and enjoyable for parents and kids. I find myself humming the songs throughout the day!! I especially enjoyed reading the notes on each song. They are honest and make the music even more meaningful. Our favorite songs: Rhubarb Pie (silly and so catchy),Mahalo, My Energy, Smile(beautiful lyrics and her voice is incredible). My husband, my one and a half year old and I love listening and dancing to the music on this cd. It is perfect music for the whole family to enjoy!
