Free Music Review: an essential
Hit: 5 Stars

No one who truly appeciates Led Zeppelin, or live rock and roll for that matter, would ever say, as one reviewer in this section does, that Led Zeppelin was "a better studio band" than live band. From 1968-1973 Zeppelin was the last word in live rock and roll and many of thier performanses from that era, particularly 1969 (my appologies to those who haven't heard them), have never been equaled. While "How The West Was Won" may not be one of thier few very best performanses, it is an exteremely good one, and an exellent example of the kind of inspired, free weeling improvisation that is the essence of good live music. The "Whole Lotta Love" medley, singled out for criticism by the aforementioned reviewer, is arguably the best example on this CD of what I'm talking about. Far from "getting lost in it self," the medley demonstrates the stylistic breadth and whimsical unselfconsciousness that are the hallmarks of Zeppelin live. For the audience it was clearly the emotional climax of the concert. How many of today's rock groups would have the nerve to play "Hello Mary Lou" and the talent to make it sound great? People who are disappointed that Led Zeppelin's live shows are not note for note reprodutions of their studio work, or studies in technical perfection are missing the point and shuold stick to the 9 studio albums. Those who love the excitement of a band plying on the edge of their ability, always searching for that special musical moment, will really love this CD.

Free Music Review: Zep How The West Was Won - Awsome!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Simply put this 3 cd set is awsome! I like many of
you out there own just about everything Zep that was made
available both musically and visually. I have heard some
rare live performances on the radio. I have seen, heard, even own (shhhh!) some bootleg material much of which I thought to be in many cases somewhat exceptional. All that said Absolutely Nothing could have prepared me for what my ears were about to behold in listening to this new release. In the nutshell it has everything.. Its live, its powerful, its soft, it's bluesy, its funky, its tasty and has rare never heard of material done to perfection and to boot its digital! Did I leave anything out? As good as the Song Remains the Same sound track was maybe for its time (flawed in the eyes of many including that of the band itself) this blows it away and is how Zeppelin should have actually been captured to begin with! I do not want to get into too much detail as I do not wish to spoil it for you but I would recommend this compilation to any blues, rock & roll or music enthusiast etc. An absolute must have for the Zep fan. The only thing that quite possibly can make this release even better would be another release! The same goes for the dvd release - unbelievable! Kudo's to Jimmy Page and the producers for bring these to light and back to life the way they have. Truely must have been a labor of love. A little long in coming but worth every second. Kudo's also to Amazon.. their price was excellent as was their service!

Free Music Review: So great, no words can describe, so I will make one up
Hit: 5 Stars

SCRUMTRILESCENT...many of you out there may be saying, what would be worthy of a brand new word? Well this CD(s) is. The moment I put it in my car CD Player and Immigrant Song came on, I was hooked. I am officially going out and giving this CD a record ******. I was an ordinary fan of Led Zeppelin, as a 16 year old who of course didnt grow up in the 70s, was transformed. All the Zeppelin stuff I have heard was the early and later days of Led Zep and had only really heard the good hits. Forget that.

How the West Was Won is in my opinion how Led Zeppelin won the world over and became the greatest band of all time. Robert Plant was always a reason I was never a huge Led Zep fan, I never was a huge fan of his vocals. In recent years I have come to enjoy and appreciate them much more. Still i wasnt completely won over. Robert's vocals in this CD are scrumtrilescent. He add's more enthusiasm and just makes the songs much better. Black Dog was always my favorite Zeppelin song and his vocals make it so much better. He also adds a wierd lyric a little into the song, which is a little wierd but still great.

Jimmy Page stays the same, which you may think may not be good. No its great. Jimmy Page is one of the greatest guitar players ever and needs no change.

How the West Was Won is both scrumtrilescent (meaning too great that no words can describe, so we will make one up, yes it is fake don't bother looking it up, and yes i did steal it from a Will Ferrell skit) and worthy of 6 stars.

Free Music Review: The Best RnR Band Ever
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, I'd like to say that "Cody James Long "ZooYorkmafia" is completely wrong when he says that robert plant doesn't have talent. Robert Plant is one of the most talented singers in all of Rock 'n' Roll history. Just because his style doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean he's missing talent. I for one love his vocals and wish there were more people who could sing like him.

Anyway, Led Zeppelin is probably the most talented Rock 'n' Roll band ever. Jimmy Page is an amazing guitarist and (contrary to some opinions) Robert Plant is an equaly awsome vocalist. John Bonham is probably one of the best drummers ever. As for the bassist, he is probably the weakest link in the whole band yet if he were in any other band he could be the most talented member.

This live compilation is something diehardfans wont want to miss and would be a very good introduction into the band for new fans. It has none of their so-so work, only the absolute greatest songs. My favorites would be What Is and What Should Never Be, Dancing Days, Since I've Been Loving You, Over The Hills And Far Away, and of course Stairway to Heaven. One thing though: someone posted before me that Jimmy Page really showed his talent by playing Stairway to Heaven live perfectly and slightly altered. I'd just like to tell you all, Stairway to Heaven isn't a hard song to play. I play guitar. Its the first song most people learn when playing guitar. Why? Because its simple. Its a great song, but not very difficult.

Free Music Review: "How the West Was Won" Made Me a Believer
Hit: 5 Stars

In the past I had been only a casual listener and fan of Led Zeppelin's music. Sure, every once in a while, when I was in the mood,I'd pull out 'Houses of the Holy' or the 'runes/Zoso' album. They're great albums, but were they nothing I went nuts about. Well, that all changed last week.I had read tons of media hype about how a new Led Zepplin CD of past live material was going to be released and once and for all prove, they were the best live band of the '70s. Curious, I decided to check it out and buy the CD. Guess what I found out? IT SURE AINT HYPE!!!! When I put "How the West Was Won" on the CD player I was totally bowled over! This CD makes the Stone's "Get Out Yer Ya-Yas" (my now former favorite live album) sound like a Sunday picnic. You know the scene at the church in "The "Blues Brothers Movie", where Belushi starts yelling out "I see the Light!!". Well thats how this album was for me! Never had I heard such an audacious brew of hard rock, blues and celtic folk all mixed together to create something so raw, heated and original. The first thing I did after my initial listening of this rock n'roll masterpiece was run out and purchase the companion DVD simply titled "Led Zeppelin". That baby is fantastic also! I've been wearing out both the CD and DVD players with both these titles for the past couple of days. Now its time to reassess all my Zeppelin CDs and start looking for imports. If you havn't bought "How the West Was Won" yet, all I can say is... STOP WASTING TIME AND BUY IT!!!
