Free Music Notes for The Song Remains The Same (Remastered / Expanded) (2CD)Free Music Review: Never a big fan of this album! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to admit that I was never a big fan of the original album, I found it to be quite boring after awhile and was never really thrilled with it's lack of tunage. To me it had way to many missing pieces and just bludgeoned the listener to death with the same sections of some songs played over and over again until it hurt.
Some people love Zeppelin live, others think they suck! I am one of those who loves the way the band sounded live. The energy and passion of their live shows is almost indescribable. Check out their 2003 DVD release to see what I mean. It's truly an amazing view and listen.
This remastered version of The Song Remains The Same sounds fantastic. It also has more tunes on it which is what really brings it to life. The combination of more tunes and better production is simply a unbeatable combination. Some have said that this concert was not one of Zeppelin's better efforts and I would agree to some extent. However the fact remains that any Zeppelin remastered and added upon release is a thousand times better than most stuff out their today. Some of the tunes have been edited, but again, it's a more enjoyable listen overall and isn't that the point here?
New tunes to be found on this release are as follows: Black Dog, which includes Bring It On Home, Over The Hills and Far Away, Misty Mountain Hop, Since I've Been Loving You, The Ocean, Heartbreaker and Whole Lotta Love.
Any Zep fan should find something to like here and maybe even truly enjoy. I know I did even with the edits/fix ups as I like to call them. I'm glad I picked this cd up and gave this concert another chance!
Free Music Review: Stunning Remastering, Blazing Performances...This Version Elevates Song to a New Level Hit: 5 Stars
I admit I wasn't a fan of The Song Remains the Same live album when it was released back in 1976 (was it that long ago?). The concert seemed flat. When the CD was first issued, I thought it sounded even worse. Hardly any highs or lows -- sound-wise and performance-wise.
But Jimmy Page and Kevin Shirley have waved a magic wand over the master tapes. This isn't the same album any more. It's dynamic, vibrant, blistering. The bass guitar is there now! The guitar rings out clear as a bell. And Plant's voice is right up front where it belongs.
I've been listening all afternoon to this remastered edition of The Song Remains the Same. There have been projects around the house I was supposed to get to. There was another new CD I wanted to hear. But I couldn't take this 2-CD set out of my player. It held me in its grip for the entire concert.
Led Zeppelin continues to astound some 25 years after they broke up, and a full three decades plus after this concert was performed at Madison Square Garden in 1973.
If you've held off buying this because the original version left a bad taste in your mouth, rest assured this is a unique experience now. It's crisp as a new can of Pringles and twice as tasty.
I highly recommend The Song Remains the Same remastered 2-CD edition.
Free Music Review: Led Zeppelin is always great Hit: 5 Stars
After burning the original 1976 soundtrack into my mental mp3 for the past few decades, I hear a clearly different product...but it kinda like a new album. Deadheads have every song ever played, let's hope Led fans get the same output from LZ. I especially want to hear the O2 concert cleanly edited, mixed, and available before the 2010-2011 Led Zeppelin tour. (wink wink)
Yes, TSRTS is a little different but it's also refreshing. To the comments about "being/not being true to the original"...so what! I sometimes think I'm reading a boring review of Masterpiece Theater when the need to mirror the past is cited. Led has been there and they move this great music along with presence into the future. Let Jimmy remix, revamp, and redo every LZ project. I'll want to hear it all. His recent remasters have also been excellent.
This TSRTS is longer, sounds clearer, has more tracks, has different riffs, and these bits click right away as new and different. But to what really matters about Led Zeppelin music, it test my monster stereo system wonderfully.
I'm listening to it right now! (No Quarter guitar solo and crescendo...outstanding!)
Thanks Led Zeppelin for many years of the very best rock and roll ever produced.
Free Music Review: Your HEART will POUND in your MOUTH! Hit: 5 Stars
I don't play a musical instrument. I know diddly about music theory. I'm 50, and I've been a fan of The Zeppelin since the planet was young. The first Zep album I bought was LZ II. I was 16 years old. The second was The Song Remains the Same. I was two days older than when I bought LZ II. Total LZ addiction.
I just bought this re-issue of TSRTS on August 10, 2010. If you have the slightest inclination to keep playing your 35-year old recording of TSRTS, you will die a virgin. Jimmy Page passed his magic wand over the mother recordings and has produced a re-issue that makes, by comparison, the Beatles' Abbey Road album look like a novice attempt at studio engineering.
Put this in your Amazon shopping basket RIGHT NOW and buy it before your heart gives out and you die never realizing what a live performance can possibly achieve.
It's the original recording, plus seven more songs, plus eleven gallons of JALAPENO SAUCE!
JIMMY PAGE Music Review: Takes some getting usd to Hit: 5 Stars
After becoming intimate with this soundtrack for 30 years, this new one takes some getting used to. It should be re-stickered to read, remixed, remastered and RE-EDITED. Jimmy Page has been hacking at it to swap in and out whatever parts he liked. Drum parts, guitar parts and vocal parts all swapped in and out, here, there and everywhere. I will have to wait for thegardentapes guys analysis of this so I know which parts were taken from which nights during the 3 night MSG stand and which ones are overdubs, etc. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds killer and much better than before and the bonus material was long awaited. Overall, awesome, been playing the hell out of it, NO QUARTER, awesome. SINCE I'VE BEEN LOVING YOU, awesome. ROCK N ROLL is from the film version. There is no Santa Claus and there is no such thing as a true LIVE recording either I guess.
