Free Music Notes for Bye Bye Birdie (1960 Original Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: We Love You Conrad.
Hit: 5 Stars

Out of all the various versions of this beloved musical, this is the best BYE BYE BIRDIE album to own. Starring Dick Van Dyke and Chita Rivera, this album captures the comical and satirical essence that is BYE BYE BIRDIE. Some of my favorite songs include:

"An English Teacher"

"The Telephone Hour"

"Put on a Happy Face"

"Honestly Sincere

"Hymn for a Sunday Evening"

"Kids"

"Rosie"

This is a great album to listen to if you have ever been in the play and is the most true to the script. Avoid the movie version, unless you want to hear Ann-Margaret.

Free Music Review: Five stars is not enough!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm acting in my summer stock company's production of "Bye Bye Birdie," this summer. This show has been one of my favorites since, years ago, when I was in High School, I was sick one day and my Mom rented it for me. It has some really great songs in it. My favorite is "The Telephone Hour." It's August already and I still love it. "One Boy, One Special Boy," makes me cry every time I hear that song. If you like fifties music, definitely buy this cd and the movie too. You won't go wrong with either one.

Free Music Review: Energy proliferates
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw the live version, albeit with the Australian cast, many years ago. It comprised a wonderfully vibrant, energetic cast. This version had just as much tuneful energy as the live show. I must say, though, that I was disappointed that some of what was in the live show was omitted. Regardless, it is still an exciting production.

Free Music Review: Bye Bye Birdie vocal CD
Hit: 5 Stars

Great service, and exactly the music I was looking for!

Free Music Review: One of Strouse's best. But, Adams needs a different job!
Hit: 4 Stars

I am a big fan of Charles Strouse's hit Annie. This score is up to par with Annie, but it does not surpass it. The voices on this CD are actually quite good. I was thinking that Dick Van Dyke's voice would leave something to be desired, but he was great! Chita Rivera was excellent as usual! Paul Lynde was a great father. His songs "Kids" and "A Hymn for a Sunday Evening" are showstoppers. Also, "The Telephone Hour" which is my favorite song on this CD is awesome. You can actually feel Gower Champion's choreography through the music!

The reason I only gave this CD 4 stars was because of Lee Adams' lyrics, which were horrible. For example in, "One Boy" one lyric goes as follows: One boy to joke with, have coke with. Also in the song, "You gotta be Sincere" all of Birdie's lyrics are trite and banal.

Other than those reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend this CD.
