Free Music Review: Lee Ann Womack Gives You a Song to Go On
Hit: 5 Stars

I was first "given" the song "I Hope You Dance" by my friend Sam as I was packing and leaving for a new town and a new life. The CD was not available yet, so I waited for awhile to get it. I had many options of things to do with my life and did not know which one to take. In the mean time I bought the CD. If for no other reason buy the CD for the song "I Hope You Dance". It is the most inspiring song. I have played that song over and over from here to Austin. I have shared the song with my church prayer circle. I am giving this song to others who have hard jobs that help a lot of people. Sometimes it is difficult to continue when you know you could go somewhere else and make much more money. I am a person with a disability and there is a line in the song that says "Don't let some helping heart leave you bitter". That is so meaningful to me as some well meaning people sometimes don't treat you with respect and dignity. Often you don't say anything because they are well meaning. I like the fact that this line is included in the song. Kudos for the song. The song is also inspirational without forcing it down your throat and shows you that there are always options. The songs she picks to sing are unusually worded, giving you some pause as you think what they mean like "I should be ashes by now" and "When I fall, Where will I stand?" (Buy the CD to understand what these mean) Lee Ann has a good voice and sings "I hope you Dance" with a great gusto. I enjoyed some of the other songs, although I am not a big fan of country. Again, I would recommend this CD very highly even if you are not a fan of country, but enjoy a good song that can touch your soul.

Free Music Review: Keeping Country Traditional
Hit: 5 Stars

It's so refreshing when a superstar such as Lee Ann Womack remains true to her country roots. These roots are expressed beautifully on her latest CD "I Hope You Dance". Destined to be one of the best CD's of the year, it's chock full of hit songs that will satisfy new and older country fans alike.

The CD starts with "The Healing Kind", a song about love lost and wounds that won't heal. On this cut Womack enlists the vocal help of the legendary Ricky Scaggs, and the result is pure emotion.

"I Hope You Dance", a song featuring Sons of the Desert, is obviously the superhit of the CD. It's cross-over success on pop and adult contemporary stations prove that Lee Ann's vocals are good enough for all genres.

Another hit, "Ashes By Now" is a remake of the Rodney Crowell version. It's such a great song. Lee Ann adds such power behind it.

My favorite cut is a toss-up between "I Know Why the River Runs" and the Don Williams tune "Lord I Hope This Day Is Good". Each and every single cut on this album is superb. Lee Ann's voice emits such raw emotion that you find yourself actually feeling the words. The gal knows how to sing a love-lost song or any song for that matter like no other in the industry.

What I enjoyed best about the CD is that it sticks to it's traditional country roots. With the exception of the pop version of "I Hope You Dance" (Sons of the Desert was cut out..shock!) every cut is country, pure and emotional. Every country fan should own this CD. It's been a mainstay in my home stereo for over a year. 4 words: GO BUY IT TODAY!!!

Free Music Review: Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" = TRADITIONAL COUNTRY
Hit: 5 Stars

Lee Ann Womack is the Queen of Relationship Songs in Country Music. She also goes back to traditional country. Here are my ratings for each song on her album:

The Healing Kind: Great... sounds a lot like Dolly Parton. (5 stars)

I Hope You Dance: Outstanding title track... well sung, but let's eliminate the background vocals by Sons of the Desert. Lee Ann's voice doesn't need backup. (5 stars)

After I Fall: Great track... Fans shouldn't skip it while listening to the album. It's a very under rated track. (5 stars)

Stronger than I Am: Cool... a song about moving on (5 stars)

I Know Why the River Runs: Amazing!! Tied for my all time favorite Lee Ann Womack song... Breathtaking and lenghty. (5 stars)

Why they call it Falling: Wow... the vocal performance Lee Ann did of this on the 2001 ACM awards, the year she won 3 awards, was excellent. (5 stars)

Ashes by Now: Great... I love the tag Lee Ann does in this song. (5 stars)

Thinkin' With my Heart Again: Sung really soft and low and not too lengthy. (4 stars)

I Feel Like I'm Forgetting Something: Beautiful... Uptempo, just the way I like it. Co-written by Lee Ann. (5 stars)

Lonely Too: Okay... but doesn't appeal to me like the other songs on Lee Ann's album. (4 stars)

Does My Ring Burn Your Finger: Great... I love Lee Ann's voice in angst. Like an 'Alanis Morissette' in country. (5 stars)

Lord I Hope this Day is Good: Excellent!! The Bluegrass side of Lee Ann. Like a prayer... tied for my favorite Lee Ann Womack song. However, if this was another chorus long it would have been. (5 stars)

Overall Rating of this album: 4.83333 stars = 5 stars

Definitely worth buying!

Free Music Review: One of the Best Albums Ever
Hit: 5 Stars

"I Hope You Dance" is one of the best country albums ever made. It has already become a classic. Womack mesmerized audiences with her first two albums, "Lee Ann Womack" and "Some Things I Know", both of which showcased her beautiful voice and excellent song selection. She tops herself again with "I Hope You Dance". The title track was a smash hit and crossed over to pop radio. It's a beautiful song about wishing the best for someone. Womack sings about things that matter, and her material is often serious. However, she co-wrote "I Feel Like I'm Forgetting Something" and this is a great uptempo, lighthearted song. Womack does not choose cookie-cutter songs, she sings songs that have a message and express emotion. The opening track "The Healing Kind" is done very believable. An often overlooked track is "After I Fall", a beautiful ballad about falling in love with somebody without being afraid of how it will turn out. "I Know Why The River Runs" is the best song on the album, a lovely song about the loss of a lover. "Why They Call It Falling" is a clever song with a play on words and describes falling in love to falling out of love. "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger" is a catchy tune with a little attitude to ballance out all the soft songs on the album. And last, but not least is "Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good". A cover song that Lee Ann does wonderfully. This is Lee Ann Womack's best album so far. It still has the country roots, but also sounds fresh at the same time, a rarity in country music today.
