Free Music Notes for Lemonjelly.KyFree Music Review: Fun soothing music Hit: 4 Stars
This album is great to study to, but it can put you in a trance if you let it. I like the beginning of the CD better than the end. It gets a little weird toward the end.
Free Music Review: JELLY ROLL Hit: 4 Stars
Very mello and i can put it in and just relax and the music doesn't take over ,it adds to the mood. Better than the second disc but the second is worth a listen also.
Free Music Review: Clever, accessible, sometimes slightly dull, awful packaging Hit: 3 Stars
I like about two thirds of this disc a lot, songs from all three of the LP's, of which this is a compilation. Some of them are very clever, with interesting music, and some are a bit uncomplicated for me.I'm open to divergence from traditional melodic structures, though, so my appetite for weird stuff may not mirror your own. Much of the ample cleverness on this disc comes from the verbal samples in the songs. Nervous Tension stands out as a particularly fine example, as well as Kneel Before your God (other than the song title, this song ought not to offend most religous persons). I find this music very listenable, very repeatable, and very popular among a wide variety of house guests. On the other hand, it may not be quite what you are looking for if you want to sit in a chair and focus your full attention on the music. If you want music that sounds great and frequently grabs your attention while doing other things, this disc is superlative. The packaging... well, the art is good. But there is no text anywhere on the disc, including the spine, so you have to remember what the art is like in order to tell it apart from however many other discs you have shelved. This rather tired concept is not only unoriginal, it's downright hostile to the buyer, IMHO. AND the disc case is all paper-cardstock of an unusually thick variety, so the thing doesn't stay folded closed, which adds yet another storage hazard. No piling other discs on top of this one. The CD itself goes inside a little paper folder instead of snapping onto a plastic spindle, which makes it very difficult to get the disc in or out of the case, and will inevitably result in at least minor scratches to the disc as you slide it in and out. Lastly, the CD case is oversized, so it may not fit into a storage scheme specifically crafted for standard CDs. Four and a half stars for the music, docked one star for the awful packaging.
Free Music Review: The Hype is Exactly That Hit: 3 Stars
I had high hopes for this CD based on what I thought it was. I thought it was clever for them to use "Lemonjelly.ky" since the .ky is for the Cayman Islands, a place I love and go to now and then. When the box arrived, I liked the unusual and colorfull cardboard disc holder complete with "record" sleeve. It would have been so good if I just never put it on the CD player. While the lyrics have some edge, the music is just bland bland bland. There is nothing dared and nothing lost - or really even attempted. Boring is not the same as relaxing. Fourth and fifth listens salvage no glory much less serious glimmers of life. And yes I like "downtempo" music. As an example at the same time I order lemonjelly.ky I ordered Blue States "Nothing Changes Under the Sun" which I find to be a much better CD. I still like the name, the disc cover complete with disc jacket enough, and the ability to use the CD to provide white noise enough to give it 3 stars although that may be rating inflation to some.
Free Music Review: A album over done in this modern world Hit: 3 Stars
I would have enjoyed this album if I had heard it a few years earlier. This type of music has appeared so often over the past few years with such bands as Bentley Rhythm Ace and other groups attached to the Skint label. I was most impressed by the outstanding colourful artwork surrounding this music.
