Free Music Notes for 5 (REISSUED WITH 2 BONUS TRACKS)Free Music Review: 5 stars for 5 Hit: 5 Stars
Lenny Kravitz is definitely one of the best and most important musicians of our time. 5 is just one prove of that. His style is a unique mix of new influences, 60's and 70's rock and soul, and also hip hop. 5 starts with Live, which takes you straight to the feeling. THIS is what this record is all about. SuperSoulFighter just makes it better, and after it comes the first slowish one, I Belong To You. And all the time it just gets better and better. The beautiful Can We Find A Reason just makes it... perfect. The record has many faces, love the lyrics and the sounds. Kravitz plays almost all the instruments by himself, and uses for example "Green Heineken Bottles" to make the sound more interesting. By so far I think it's the best of Kravitz's albums. And these extra tracks, the cover of the rock song "American Woman" and the quiet, sweet but not boring "Without You" complete the record. "American Woman" is one of those songs you just have to listen LOUD at your car while driving in the highway heading nowhere and heading there fast. What can I say. Worth listening and having.
Free Music Review: Lenny Kravitz Hit: 5 Stars
I own all of Lenny's cds and think this is a refreshing new directions for Lenny. I don't think that their is an artist that you can get to know through their music like Lenny Kravitz. His life and the events of his life are written and entwined in every cd he has made. 5 has songs on it that are deeply meaningful to Lenny and the way they are crafted shows. Thinking of you, written for his mother is a powerful and beatiful song that brought a lump in my throat when I first heard it. Little Girls Eyes about his daughter growing up too fast on him, which all parents can relate too, is a wonderful song. All of this aside he still throws out songs like fly away and live which rock. His catchy tunes like If you can't say no, shines on this cd. His version of American woman rocks the soul and if there has ever been a remake that flatters the original artist more I would like to know what it would be? Overall this is a new sound, new directions, new look (bye bye dregs) for lenny and works great without getting lost with who he is. Good job Lenny, you rock!
Free Music Review: Unique Style Hit: 5 Stars
This is my 1st Lenny Kravitz CD and I loved it so much!Lenny's voice is sexy & upbeat at the same time. He has such afunky & unique style, a little rock, R&B and jazz and evensome new wave (since "I belong to you" is always played on WLIR, that is an alternative music station on Long Island. I know this is one of my favorites, simply because if I play an album at least 3x's when I first get it then I know I am hooked. The music is very moving with great melodies and some songs like "I belong to You" very relaxing, you'll listen to this one over and over. I'd say almost all of the songs are good except for American Women, Live, Supersoulfighter & Take Time. These aren't bad to listen to, but I always find myself skipping over them whenever I play the album. I am a big new wave, punk and R&B/Club music fan since my teen years were in the 80's, but I also love a little jazz. So if this fits your categories, buy it! give it 5 stars because the music is so refreshingly different and addictive.
Free Music Review: Straight Cold Player Hit: 5 Stars
That's what Lenny is. He is one of the few truly gifted artist in the music industry today. He has a unique ability to produce different types of music. Rock, pop, R&B, and 70's funk. He also has an excellent voice, which he displays through the entire album. But that's not where his talents end. He also plays a mean guitar. His lyrics have meaning and the ability to reach deep down. Thinking Of You is the most touching song you could imagine and Little Girls Eyes is beautiful. For the romantic you have I Belong To You, If You Can't Say No, and It's Your Life, all with funky beats. Live, Supersoulfighter, Fly Away, and American Woman have those hard hitting beats that drop like an A-Bomb. It's just a shame that he isn't receiving the recognition that he deserves. Since he has songs in every catagory, they should be given radio airtime accordingly.
Free Music Review: Awesome musicianship!(collector's item w/out bonus tracks) Hit: 5 Stars
Everyone keeps talking about his songs. Yes, his songs are great and there is more variety on each of his albums than his peers, but what about his instrumental prowess? I'm surprised that a great number of musicians aren't declaring him one of the most talented artist of the decade. Listen to his funky melodic bass lines on this album. Any serious bass player would benifit from learning those bass licks. Overall, "5" is a CD chock full of excellent funk-rock w/ techno-style retro soul. By the way, I want to thank Lenny and his record company for rewarding the true fans who bought "5" w/out the bonus tracks. By reissuing the CD so soon after its initial release, the hardcore Kravitz fans were the only ones lucky enough to own what will become a collectors item someday. THANKS!
