Lenny Kravits' "5" release is an awesome compilation of tunes, ranging in scope from rock, ballads and funk. The entire CD is an explosive combination of tunes that I continue to play over and over again. There isn't a track that isn't worthy of listening to all the way through! The track "Thinking of You" is a dedication to his late mother who played the part of Roxy on "The Jeffersons." This is indeed my favorite album of Lenny Kravitz. This album has many different styles of music all combined together. Unlike his previous albums, 5 is all about Rock, Soul and Funk all merged in collectively. After conquering his past and tribulations, Lenny changed his whole outlook of life therefore producing better lyrics, sounds and beats to his music. Kravtiz has got a very interesting sound going here...kind of a cross between Sly & the Family Stone's funk, Terrence Trent D'Arby's soulfulness, Earth Wind and Fire's pop, and Living Colour's (remember them?) rock.The combination is awesome, and Kravitz is talented enough to pull it off. The highlight is naturally Fly Away, but there isn't a weak track on the CD. Personal favorites are Live, Black Velveteen, Take Time, Straight Cold Player and You're My Flavor.
I love this CD.

This album, I think, is extremely underrated. It's possible that while the music is just great, Kravitz lyrics leaves much to be desired. For casual listening, though, this album has at least SIX (!) songs that could well be released as hit singles! I'm not joking when I say this. There are so many songs here with that "hook" as a hit song and it would be very hard to decide WHICH the next single could be because there are so many of them that are so radio and MTV friendly!Free Music Review: Good Energy

Lenny Kravitz does something that much musical talent neglects nowadaze. He dares to regale his listeners with joy, wisdom of the heart, and how to capture the undividual beauty in each moment. He conveys this message of good karma very well in "5". This CD is composed of track after fantastic track of 90's funk, with a twist of Lenny's unique blended quality. If you want a little charisma and diversity in your next CD, "5" is your best choice.
