Free Music Notes for Are You Gonna Go My WayFree Music Review: One of his better cds Hit: 4 Stars
In order to like Lenny Kravitz you have to have a wide range of musical tastes because Lenny is all over the map on this one. Heres the tracks: AYGGMW- title track always reminded me of Hendrix when i first heard it. this was a huge hit and it deserved to be. this song proves that Lenny Kravitz is one of the best drummers in rock. BELIEVE- starts off with kind of a Zeppelin keyboard.has a great melody great harmonies and excellent buildup ending COME ON AND LOVE ME- more great drumming from Lenny but not really a great song HEAVEN HELP- nice piano work from Hirsch, Lenny does his Michael Jackson impression. nice+ mellow JUST BE A WOMAN- another Plastic Ono Band ripoff with exact Lennon drum beat and sound IS THERE ANY LOVE IN YOUR HEART-maybe the best song on here , a total rocker with great falsetto singing from Lenny BLACK GIRL-another favorite with some weird production effects that probably sound great when stoned MY LOVE- a bare bones stoner song , very 70s SUGAR-a poor ripoff of It aint over til its over SISTER- starts off with some noise from an amp and continues til the guitar comes in , pretty cool song trying to sound alittle more important than it really is ELEUTHERIA- boring reggae song that sounds like every other reggae song ive heard
Free Music Review: underrated album Hit: 4 Stars
Really, this easily is one of the most underrated albums of the 90s. Everyone disses this album because he sounds like Hendrix here, Zeppelin there, Beatles over there. Who cares? Is it great music? Indeed. Will it change the music world? No, but he's not trying to change the music world -- only make some good music for people who enjoy it. Kravitz never claimed to be an innovator.
At least Kravitz is trying to make a "classic" album as opposed to a one or two singels and a bunch of filler -- or a dated 90s alt album that has no shelf life. This is one of those perfect summer albums that is ideal for the lazy, hazy days of summer. It amazes me now to look at my 90s collection and see stacks and stacks of CDs that I have no desire to listen to again (if I never hear Ten or Vs. again, I'd be great w/ that) but this one I can still put on and really dig.
Really, all the songs work together quite well, from soft to serious to groove to reggae to riffy and all through 60s and 70s inspired rock. Great, solid album -- highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Lenny shook the mainstream with this 'alternative' classic! Hit: 4 Stars
Lenny Kravitz redefined the 'alternative' scene in March of 1993 with his massive dreadlocks and career launching classic "Are You Gonna Go My Way?" after melancholy and angst-ridden bands like Pearl Jam, STP and Nirvana had dominated the airwaves for well over a year. This album made it ok to just rock again.Kravitz's influences are often-times transparent, but that doesn't prevent it from being great rock-n-roll music. While many consider the title track a direct "rip-off" from Jimi Hendrix, there are several other obvious influences throughout his music, widely ranging from John Lennon to Prince to Bob Marley to Led Zeppelin. Bearing in mind that Kravitz was still very young as a performer, "Are You Gonna Go My Way?" was an impressive accomplishment. Only three of the songs from this album (the title track, Heaven Help and Believe) made it onto the Greatest Hits album, so this album is a must for any true Kravitz fan, and certainly a great addition to the penultimate "90s" collection.
Free Music Review: Weird looks at Lenny Hit: 4 Stars
It's hard to follow lenny album to album only to see people mentioning his abundant influences in a bad way. Lenny sounds like zeppelin, lenny sounds like lennon, lenny sounds like mayfield. There are so many bands and artists out there who do the same, in my opinion with less personal flare, and enthusiasm, but which are welcomed or even praised for it. Lenny is in a way like the kid in highschool who always gets frowned on for doing something even though he did the same thing that another kid was or will be welcomed for doing.
Poor lenny, it makes me feel bad for him. Because he really is a talented artist, as it can be seen in "let love rule" and "mama said", and even here, and it makes me wonder where he could have gone if he had more positive incentive, which i feel he justly deserved from his environment, for doing what seems to enjoy doing most, which is making more good music of the kind he likes to listen to.
Free Music Review: Yes, I'm gonna go your way. Hit: 4 Stars
Maybe not so much now, but when this album came out Lenny was the man! If "5" isn't his most popular album, this is. The title track and video was everywhere, rightly so. I like the first two albums a bit more, but this is still solid. "Believe" was another cool single, and I really think "Heaven Help" is a smooth song. No hits in the back of this album, but I still think it's almost as strong as the first half. I think the following album Circus was good too, but this was so huge it made Circus seem like it failed. Anyway, groovy album man.
