Free Music Review: Lenny Kravitz is Born again

I first started listening to lenny kravitz with his album 5 and have since believed that there is something very great about him. When he sings, it is strenght. I didn't know or care about spirituality or connection to the force before being his fan. I can proudly say that I tried to sing his songs with his music and feel blessed, a strange connection that cannot be explained but experienced. I know that I have not listened to Lenny much for last year and didn't at all expect such a album from him. It doesn't sound anything like the past 5 albums but very much like the first one. It sounds like a fresh beginning(well Baptism). I don't want to compare his voice with the last few albums. For me he was his best with 5. His voice and music had that undeniable positivity. The album kicks with "Minister of Rock and Roll". I don't know what he means, but it sets the tone to the album, that he is back and there is a never heard before kind of rush in his voice. Then there is a song "I Don't Wanna Be a Star", well it his personal song. I read his interview about the great depression he was going through during the tour of Lenny, and how he hated doing the shows as he had commited to it, and he took drugs to overcome depression and perform. This song truly reflects that emotion(but of course, only a man who has overcomed the depression can have the courage to sing about it). Then there is "Lady". Ooh this song keeps on building till at the end you are totally into it. Hope Nicole Kidman liked it :) Nect "Calling all Angels". What can I say about it. The song is greater than any artist singing or playing it. It reminds me of experiences you get while watching any movie that moves you. This totally not like lenny, but you cannot deny that it is beautifull, So beautifull.
Then comes "California", another song that reminds you of a time. Certainly never before heard lenny, but great. When he sings in between "Venice Beach and P.O.P., Station 26 was free
Jeff Ho and Horizons west.." I was already jumping with the rythm. Short song but good. Then comes Sistamamalover. Well I enjoy the song. Listen to it in your headphones and move your head with the song, you'll love it. Well I do. I just love the rythm and the way it keeps building at the end. Music has strength. Then there is "Where are we runnin'". Song has a message, but I love "ooi ooi ooo". Great song. Then there is "Baptized". Lenny sings with his heart. You can feel some pain and loneliness in this song.
Then comes Flash. Lenny sings about enjoying his moment of stardom and its temporariness. There is this trumpet that starts the song, so cool and fresh, and above all this song is for us, his fans.
Now comes something very very different. "What did I do with my life?" My favorite song. You won't remember the rythm of drums. But the song makes you think. This is not only personal, but universal. When he says
"You can live any way you wanna
All you have to do is dance
Achieve anything you thought of
You just have to take the chance
You can fall in love with your life
'Cause that truly is romance"
You can feel the truth in each word. Then he again questions What did I do with my life?. Uptill this song I was missing the strength of lenny kravitz. But as the song builds he sings with such strength, you are speachless.
Then comes Storm, drums sound cool and song sounds funky. Sounds like he is saying something personal about loss. Well Jay-Z fits in the song perfectly. The song required some rap, the soul of the song gels with the rap. I approve with Lenny.
One of the last songs "The Other Side". When I first listened, the drums felt like "What did I do for My life?" or the soul of the song. But when he starts singing "Other Sideee" it is different. ALso the low node voice of lenny sounds strange. Then at the end is the best part when you listen to the trumpet.
The player plays with some breath taking rythm. Beautifull.
Last Song "Destiny". Guitar and Lenny. A personal kind of song. But we all are living our Destiny. This is universal. What happens was supposed to happen.
I give it 5 stars only because, I don't see any other musician to have the courage or strength to be truly himself and connected to your spiritual force like he is.
You can sing with great range, play drums with full knowledge and technique, But to sing truthfully and to be yourself in everything you do requires inner strength and truth which you cannot create. It is there with you, or it is not.
I am truly blessed to be his fan. I hope you buy this album for what lenny is.
