Free Music Notes for Baptism

Free Music Review: Baptized
Hit: 4 Stars

"Baptism" is certainly better then his last album "Lenny" there's more variety on it aswell. Lenny goes back to his older days with catchy guitar songs like "Minister Of Rock N Roll" But he also proves his lyrical skills and make some very soft ballads such as "Calling all Angels". There's plenty of trademark Lenny songs here too, like the singles released from the last 2 albums. Most of the songs are pleasant with a few exceptions but otherwise i think this is overall among the better Lenny albums. It proves maturity and musical skills, so all you doubters take a look.

The album starts with one of the best songs "Minister of Rock N Roll" which is both catchy and a great guitar song. Reminds me abit of classic stuff like "Are You gonna go my way". lenny defenitely wanted to show off what he's capable of. "Don't Wanna Be A Star" is a midtempo song where Rock Wannabe Pharell Williams appear. Yet another great guitar solo here. "Lady" is also a midtempo song, but it lacks a real hook. "Calling All Angels" is a beautiful piano ballad though, don't think i've heard Lenny like this before. It's deep and lyrically wonderful, a bit too long though. "California" is a trademark song, reminds me a bit of "Fly Away". "Sistamamalover" is good, a guiatar song that won't make any Lenny fan dissapointed. "Where are We Runnin?" it's so so, fast but we've heard it before. "Baptized" is one of many slow songs here, It's Romantic with good lyrics. "Flash" is one of my favorites, fast rock n roll song with good hook. "What Did I Do With My Life" and "Storm" are slow but forgettable. "The Other Side" is yet another piano ballad and quite good. It get's faster on the hook.

"Baptism" is a very good album that reaches not only Lenny fans, great variety and a few top songs. Give it a try, it's a very fresh new start and you'll find both old skool rock and some more modern Lenny Stuff. Recommended.

Free Music Review: Good, not great.
Hit: 4 Stars

I picked this album up used at a record store for $6, and I think it's well worth it. I'd only heard "Lady" (pretty good) and "Where are we Runnin'?" (great), so I thought I'd get it. I like the album for about half the songs. I appreciate that Lenny does slow songs, but 6 out of 13 songs? I don't even find them very good slow songs. If they were good slow songs, I'd give this CD 5 stars, but no. The fast songs are really good, so why aren't the rest like that?

1. Minister of Rock 'N' Roll: 9.5/10 Perfect way to start the album.
2. I Don't Want To Be a Star: 7/10 I don't like his whiny voice in the intro and chorus, but the verses are good.
3. Lady: 8/10 Too long and repetitive, but the solo is cool.
4. Calling All Angels: 5/10 Ugh. Slow, boring, lame lyrics, too long, etc. Skip this track.
5. California: 9/10 Fun song, good tune to dance to.
6. Sistamamalover: 9/10: Nice funky feel to the song, but odd lyrics.
7. Where Are We Runnin'?: 10/10 Awesome. Heavy bass, heavy guitar, good verses.
8. Baptized: 7/10 Bad verses, good chorus.
9. Flash: 9.5/10 I love this song. Again, odd lyrics, but good.
10. What Did I Do With My Life?: 7/10 Lenny sounds like Elvis Costello in this song, but it doesn't help.
11. Storm: 9/10 Another funky song, but this has Jay-Z, so it's that much better.
12. The Other Side: 6.5/10 Wow. This sounds just like all the other piano ballads on this album.
13. Destiny: 6/10 Sub-par defines this song. Lenny with an acoustic guitar and a falsetto. Almost worse than it sounds.

Free Music Review: This One's For the Haters!
Hit: 4 Stars

Everyone notices this CD starts off with a bang with "Minister of Rock&Roll", you cant deny this track! "I dont wanna be a star" starts the 'reflective-Lenny' approach that pops up throughout this project, but this also feels sincere. "Lady" is the ode to his....lady, and I'm feeling the melody of Lenny's voice, this CD is lyric-driven by-the-way. "Calling All Angels", a song some calls boring but if you listen to the lyrics and 'feeel' whats being presented to you then you'll appreciate this track. One of the stand out tracks gots ta be "Baptized", can we get this to be a single? Lenny rocks us with "California". Understand, I'm a strictly R&B guy and I'm feeling these rock cuts like "Where are we running". On this CD I think maybe Lenny was catering to people like me so I can cross-over, with songs like "Storm", "SistaMothaLover", its screaming for black audiences in my opinion, remember Lenny had a guest spot on P-Diddy's Bad Boys 2 soundtrack? The reflective-Lenny pops out his head in "What did I do with My Life", the saxophone performance by the guest artist is very moving in the end. This is a hot CD to me! All this talk about this not being a good studio album or whatever, JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC, QUIT COMPARING AND PICKING AND SPAWNING FLAWS!!! okay I vented, and I'm not comparing it to any of his other CD's, because I dont have any, but after digesting this gem, I'll go explore his past treasures!

Free Music Review: Lenny...being Lenny
Hit: 4 Stars

Fans and non-fans, alike, should by now know what to expect from Lenny Kravitz... fun, catchy, cliched rock music at it's most unadulterated, guiltiest, and most pleasureable best. BAPTISM is more of the same. If you're a fan...this is a good thing. If you're not... well, why are you listening anyways?
One should not scrutinize Mr. Kravitz too deeply. You may not like what you find. A Lenny Kravitz album is like a drunken binge...yeah, it can be a fun ride, but you may end up hating yourself in the morning.
Is he original? No. Are his lyrics sincere? No (see "I Don't Want to be a Star"). Catchy song, but could you honestly see Mr. Kravitz, with his model-esqe fashion style and new flat ironed hair do, cruising in a "Chevy" and playing an "old guitar"? However, the real question is... is HE sincere? I think so. Hell, considering many of today's most popular artists... that's reason enough for me to stand behind him.
This is a fun (if at times boring, "Calling All Angels") album that should make any Lenny Kravitz fan pleased. If you like Lenny Kravitz, don't be fooled by the negative reviews. This is Lenny...being Lenny.

Free Music Review: The only one I've heard but it's great
Hit: 4 Stars

I love this album. I have never been a Lenny Kravitz fan; the only songs I heard were the radio played ones and they sounded, well, frankly they were boring.

I borrowed this CD from my boss and listened to it with headphones on and I have to say, I thought it was wonderful from the first listen. The music is wonderful, very old school sounding and the music just sounds very tight and together. I guess you call that production value. The bass is fantastic, and the back up singer on the title track has got a slamming gospel voice! I liked the lyrics; I know I read on here people think he's the worst lyricist, but I found his very introspective on the slower songs. And the song everyone hates, Lady, does have simplistic lyrics, but I don't think you listen to pop songs for the lyrics. If it's catchy, then I like it. It's supposed to be simplistic, in my opinion; the man wasn't writing a sonnet here, folks.

I don't listen to this kind of music, while I like most kinds I favor R&B, hip hop and punk as well as bluegrass, if you can imagine that, but this will be one "Rock" album I intend to buy a copy of.
