Free Music Review: Don't let sales figures determine a hot CD!
Hit: 4 Stars

I only own two Lenny K Cd's 'Baptism' and his Greatest Hits CD. I bought the GH CD when it came out cause I was in love with "Again" and dug his other hits. I bought "Baptism" honestly because it was like 10 bucks and of course, had heard "Where Are We Runnin" quite a bit, and only heard a couple of other tracks. Let me say this CD was quite a pleasant surprise. I really do think he pleases ALL of his fans on here...while making some new! Rockers will get a kick outta "Where Are We Runnin"...his slow jam fans with enjoy "Calling All Angels", Top 40 fans with love, "Lady" (did ya catch that lick??) and maybe a newer fan base for Lenny is the Urban crowd (ever since his collabo with P.Diddy on the Bad Boys 2 Soundtrack) he collaborates with the jigga man, Jay Z on this album....All around, I really enjoyed it...and if you are a lenny fan in the past and are debating purchasing it...dont wait any longer...just goes to prove that sales to not always necessarily define a good album, as i beleive this CD only went gold! Pick it up, and get 'baptized'! ;)

Free Music Review: Solid Rock and Roll
Hit: 4 Stars

"Baptism" by Lenny Kravitz is an all-around solid rock album, but not an all-star. Songs such as "Lady" and "Where Are We Runnin'" help to drive the album, in addition to the marvel of "I Don't Wanna Be A Star", which is one of his best tracks in recent years. Unfortuneatly, "Lady" can be repetitive, "Where Are We Runnin'" is over before it begins, and "I Don't Wanna Be A Star" has a very uncomfortable bridge, which is compensated for by an amazing solo. The rest of the songs are are all solid, noticably "Flash" and "Sistamamalover." Another lacking point is the unmemorablenss of most of his guitar solos. While they are fast and rock-driven, they are also generic and seemingly very emotionless.
The slower songs on this album can be very interesting, some show depth and are very good after a few spins, wheras some are just plain weak.
Overall, I reccomend this album to any rock and roll or any Lenny Kravitz fan, but don't expect to be buying a masterpeice.

Free Music Review: Same ol' Lenny. Great!
Hit: 4 Stars

Another great CD by Lenny. One surprise was the rap by Jay-Z on "Storm"...horrible track and boring rap. "What Did I Do With My Life?" and "The Other Side" sound like the same songs-I was surprised over that. Lenny is best when doing the all out rock tunes like "Where Are We Runnin'?" and "California." He falters a little bit at the midtempo stuff like "I Don't Want To Be A Star" and "Minister Of Rock And Roll" is suprisingly sluggish in rhythm when you'd think it'd be a rocking song judging by the title. He is also good with the ballads...He did a lot them on previous CD "Lenny" on this new CD there are just as many. Great Singer and songwriter. I don't see what everyone is whining about(pro tools, etc). Buy it if you like his music, but try not to laugh when you see his new hairstyle in the pictures inside the CD booklet! Lenny, go back to the FRO!!

Free Music Review: Another Eclectic Set From Lenny
Hit: 4 Stars

THis may be Lenny's most eclectic effort yet in another great album. His sound is honed, his lyrics shine, but the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because it is missing... something. It just doesn't feel complete or something... i'm not sure. One mistake was asking jay-z to guest star on the album. A rapper on a rock legend's album. Oh no! That just didn't fit. Overall the album is very good, but i must mention the album is a little toned down rocking wise and does seem to focus more on ballads, which is good because the songs are very good. THere are also alot more spiritual songs (the other side, Baptized), both yearning for a love only God can give. Some very good production, and voice changes make for an interesting album. Also some great guitar work that gives the album a retro feel; which of course every lenny album gives off. Overall, LEnny is a great talent, and i appreciate his gift of music.

Free Music Review: To Set It Straight
Hit: 4 Stars

I don't usually even do reviews but after listening to this album and seeing what everyone wrote I had to write something. Baptism is a solid album it didn't blow me away at first but as you listen to it you get a feel for it. I have all Lenny's album's and while this is not his best it's definitely worth buying. Now about "Storm" which everyone seems to trash simply b/c it has a rap in it. Everyone who is saying Lenny sold out for a single must have missed his collaboration on the Blueprint 2 w/ Jay-Z "Guns N Roses". I think the two artists just like working together. Don't throw a hissy b/c he a quality rap artist on his album. And it's a great song. Lenny and Jay-Z have both spoken about wanting to broaden their artistic horizons and from a person who listens to everything from Jay-Z to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to U2 to Junior Senior to Coltrane etc. I suggest you all do the same.
