Free Music Review: Lenny is always good

Lenny's dark album, which was more popular in Europe than in the U.S., deserves more credit than it often gets. It's not dark as in evil, but it represents a period in Lenny's life in which he turned the focus inward, and as a result, produced some pretty darn good music. The album opens with "Rock and Roll Is Dead", observing how rock and roll was about sex & drugs, as opposed to the good old music. The title track, "Circus", is stark and raw, Lenny felt like his life was becoming one great big Circus. The next song ("Beyond...") is a good, driving rock song with the heavy drums and guitar. "Tunnel Vision" is funky and sexy, "Can't Get You..." is your sad love song, "Magdalene" is the story of a modern-day Mary Magdalene.
"God Is Love" isn't what you would expect it to be. It's almost as if Lenny's sad that God is, indeed, love. "Thin Ice" basically warns a brother that he's digging himself into a pit and he'd better get it together. The first, and probably only, ray of sunshine on this album is "In My Life Today", where Lenny figures that God will help him get himself together. "Resurrection" is a bloody good song, you just have to listen to it.
Yes, this is Lenny's darkest and most spiritual album, but that doesn't take away from his expert musicianship. Lenny is one of the best rock musicians out today, and Circus is just another stage in his growth into who he is now-the ideal rock star.

So many people find fault in Lenny Kravitz's tendency to emulate classic rock sounds. In reality, the only thing he "rips off" from great bands of the past is the desire to write good songs and record and produce them well. Circus is Lenny Kravitz's best album. Some might say that any one of the songs on this album could have easily been written by one classic rock band or another, but the fact is, they were written by Lenny Kravitz and his band. If they are a throwback, they are a throwback to a time when singers had strong, passionate voices and a feel for harmony, when songwriters wrote sophisticated songs, when guitarists strove for good tone, when bass players contributed more than just the low end, when drummers experimented to achieve cool sounds, when albums flowed cohesively with certain themes and motifs, when producers were sensitive and innovative, and generally when music didnt suck.Free Music Review: COOL, SEXY SOUND

ALSO "ROCK'N'ROLL IS DEAD" MAKES YOU THINK LED ZEPPLIN TYPE SOUND WITH THE MUSIC, BUT THE DRUMS (THAT HE PLAYED ON THE REC.)HAS A SOUND THAT ONLY HE COULD CREATE.HIS VOICE WILL ROCK AND SOOTH YOU AT THE SAME MOMENT. "CAN'T GET YOU OFF MY MIND" GETS YOU DEEP IN LOVE WHILE NEVER LOOSING THAT COOL ATTITUDE AND THAT COOL SUN-STRICKEN CLOSING OF THE EYES. "IN MY LIFE TODAY", AHH MAN, JUST LISTEN TO IT. Lenny Kravitz, has chosen a style that only he can truly give,he is showing us his heart and his soul through his music. Such songs as GOD IS LOVE(7),IN MY LIFE TODAY(10) and THE RESURRECTION(11) may all have religous overtones but they are wonderful expressions of his spitural and religous side. Lenny Kravitz`s music on this his 4th CD shows a musican who knows where he is in his life and his music. I am blessed to have bought this CD and I hope you will fell the same when you listen to it. My favorite song is CIRCUS(2)so go and have a listen.
