Free Music Notes for Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Something of an overlooked superstar Hit: 5 Stars
This Greatest Hits compilation from Lenny Kravitz revealed to me what i already knew that he is a great songwriter although perhaps always overlooked for more mediocre artists how have more mainstream appeal. Most of the songs here are great although a few more would not have gone amiss as there is still about 20 minutes left at the end of the disc and with five terrific studio albums he surely had some more songs to fill this extra space but despite this you can't complain about what is on offer.Since it is called the Greatest Hits it therefore features all his Greatest Hits - well not quite but it does feature all his big chart smashes which were what people bought so obviously they'll buy this if it includes all the great Kravitz songs that charted. From the guitar heavy anthems of Are You Gonna Go My Way and Fly Away to more laid back numbers like Believe, Heaven Help and the current smash hit Again and not forgetting the totally irresistible It Ain't Over Till It's Over this CD is full of intsantly recognisable songs for the more casual record buyer. However, if you are a huge Lenny Kravitz fan some of the more cult classics have been left of but if you are a MAJOR fan you will no doubt have all his albums so this CD isn't really necessary unless you are completely obsessed with getting hold of Again. All the hits are here and they are great and this genre defying superstar is here to stay and this CD should find a place in anyone's record collection who likes good guitar driven songs and more laid back songs.
Free Music Review: One of the greatest rock artists of today Hit: 5 Stars
When I bought this CD three years ago, I played it. I loved it! Then my sister noticed this CD. She asked if it has "Are You Going To Go My My". I said "yes". Then she asked if it has "Let Love Rule". Again, I said "yes". Then she looked at the tracks. She got very excited and said, "oh my gosh, it's got all of them. Can I borrow it?" Indeed, it's got all of them. This is Lenny Kravitz's compilation of his greatest songs from 1989-2000. These tracks uniquely blend today's rock, 60's flower-power spirit, retro, and 60's/70's Motown R&B. Few today's rockers have as much talent as Kravitz: performing, songwriting, and guitar. This CD takes us on a journey to more than his career, he takes us to his personal life then and now, and he takes us to a time of rock & roll that everyone misses. His lyrics are very meaningful and heartfelt. Though a compilation, he still manages to prove to his audience that he continues to evolve as an artist, especially on his unreleased catchy track "Again". This CD proves that he will be around for many more years to come. Soon enough, he'll release "Greatest Hits Vol. 2". Lenny Kravitz needs to present this CD to the majority of today's rock artists, the ones that are talentless, which will show them how to write songs and perform them correctly.
Free Music Review: I'm a Fan now Hit: 5 Stars
I was never huge fan of Lenny Kravitz. Not so say that I didn't like him, but I never waited at the record store to pick up any of his CD's. This is the only one of his disks that I own. This is the only one you need to own. All of the songs of his you hear on the radio are here, and all of them are excellent. The reason I bought this CD was the new song Again included on the disk that is getting alot of air time. After listening to the disk in it's entirety, I'm glad I didn't just buy the single. There are songs on here that I've heard before, but after hearing them now, I can't seem to think why I didn't buy any of the other CD's he's put out. Fly away, last years big hit, Beleive, Let love rule, Are you gonna go my way, all of them are here. But my favorites are Again, and the beatiful Heaven Help. I think Heaven Help is the best track here, but you will make your own mind up there. No matter what, you will at least find 2 or 3 favorites on this disk. I have decided to go out and by the rest of his catalogue too, I may have just found what I have been missing. I'm a Fan now.
Free Music Review: GOOD STUFF... Hit: 5 Stars
Thank goodness Lenny Kravitz put out a greatest hits CD, although we all know that this is just one of many to come since he still has a lot of rock left in him. BUT, for those of us who can't afford to spend all of our hard earned dough, cheese, 'benjamins' (take your pick) collecting his body of work since the late 80s, this is the perfect retrospective. Lenny has evolved throughout the years, and getting this CD is a great way to discover which sides of his musical expression you're into - since he's very much into what he's feeling at the time when he makes his music...I know I personally liked his early work a lot, but he won me back with the last album. Especially if you're a casual fan, this is one of the best buys (in music period) that you'll come across in a long time. Definitely quality, with no filler. Good stuff... Knyte (Trust Me) My favorites? "It Ain't Over Till It's Over", "Always On The Run" (so funky...), and "I Belong To You"... Yeah!
Free Music Review: For real Hit: 5 Stars
We are lucky to be alive to hear the work of this man. If you've ever seen him live, or seen one of his performances on film, then you KNOW this is a person who puts so much of what is lacking in performance of contemporary sound and that is FEELING. It blows my mind the criticism he's received accusing him of robbing the stylistic graves of his idols - excuse me? So do hundreds of other artists who can't even hold a candle in tribute no matter how hard their effort or sincerity. THIS is a man who takes whatever influences and MAKES THEM HIS OWN. I have no problem whatsoever picking out a riff or musical inflection out of any of his works in recognition of his predecessors. He writes, produces, and most impressive plays almost all instruments on his recordings. Lenny Kravitz is BEYOND reproach. I keep hoping one day to see the emergence of African-American BANDS, with LIVE INSTRUMENTS, getting AIRPLAY. Like back in the 70's, where there were numerous groups with plenty of organic vibes.
