Lenny Kravitz is quite the musician. Not quite hard rock, not quite alternative, not quite pop, just good solid music. His sound is all over the place, from heavy riffs to almost to almost a 70s feel including reggae, blues, and house. Kravitz has a good ear for rhythm that leads to some cool grooves. He is a master at punctuating those grooves with mutes and accents and hammered chords. There are numerous hits on this album. The rhythm guitar from "Fly Away" is simple, yet infectious. The bass line gives it a unique feel, and the slight echo on his voice makes the chorus all the more powerful. "Black Velveteen" has an industrialized rhythm, and more effects on his voice. He kicks it up a notch during the song, coming forward with the rhythm guitar with excellent punctuation making for a powerful song. The album opens with his theme song of "Are You Gonna Go My Way", with its cool opening groove. The cover of the Guess Who classic, "American Woman" appears here as well as a dozen other good cuts from Kravitz's repertoire.
This album has a lot of his best cuts, and saves the trouble of finding his most popular songs on all of his discs.

Lenny Kravitz to me is the latter Jimi Hendrix. His looks his vibe, his guitar playing all can be similiar to Jimi Hendrix. The music category would be hard to put this one on I would say classic rock or hard rock. Lenny Kravitz is defentily a great guitarist. I am a huge Jimi Hendrix classic rock fan and when I borrowed this cd off of my friend I was blown away. Are you gonna my way has a kick ass riff in it u can here his flying v cracked up in his marshall stack it just rocks!!Its a true rock melody. I also like the vibe of fly away the music is great. Some other songs I love on this CD are Mr.Cab Driver, and Rock N Roll Is Dead. If your a first time listener to classic rock or a guitarist buy this. This covers everything Lenny Kravitz the only negative statement I have to say about this CD is they did not include Dig In but this CD was released before Lenny wrote the song the rest of it is pure rock n roll. I mostly listen to new age music but even though its my favorite type of music I still like to listen to rock and roll. Lenny Kravitz is my favorite rock musician along with my other favorite Michael Jackson. Their music is very different. Lenny's music is much louder than Michael's where he plays softer music with more of a dance beat.The first song I heard from Lenny Kravitz was "American Woman" which was originally sung by the group "The Guess Who". I heard it on my compilation CD "Now That's What I Call Music Vol. 3" and thats also an album you might want to try.
Anyway, I'll mention a few of my favorites: Fly Away, Again, Can't get you off my mind and I belong to you[ which I heard from Now 4. But all in all every song is great.
If you already own the greatest hits you might want to try 5 which is in my opinion Lenny Kravitz's second best album.
I recommend this album to everyone who loves rock and roll!

When I bought this CD three years ago, I played it. I loved it! Then my sister noticed this CD. She asked if it has "Are You Going To Go My My". I said "yes". Then she asked if it has "Let Love Rule". Again, I said "yes". Then she looked at the tracks. She got very excited and said, "oh my gosh, it's got all of them. Can I borrow it?" Indeed, it's got all of them.This is Lenny Kravitz's compilation of his greatest songs from 1989-2000. These tracks uniquely blend today's rock, 60's flower-power spirit, retro, and 60's/70's Motown R&B. Few today's rockers have as much talent as Kravitz: performing, songwriting, and guitar. This CD takes us on a journey to more than his career, he takes us to his personal life then and now, and he takes us to a time of rock & roll that everyone misses. His lyrics are very meaningful and heartfelt. Though a compilation, he still manages to prove to his audience that he continues to evolve as an artist, especially on his unreleased catchy track "Again".
This CD proves that he will be around for many more years to come. Soon enough, he'll release "Greatest Hits Vol. 2". Lenny Kravitz needs to present this CD to the majority of today's rock artists, the ones that are talentless, which will show them how to write songs and perform them correctly.
