Great selections from the underrated poet/troubador and his endless fascination with the female body. Particular favorites of mine are the subline "Sisters of Mercy", the raucus country "Closing Time", and "Everybody Knows" from the movie Exotica. Notably missing is the intoxicating "Love Calls You By Your Name". Great first listen to this wonderful Canadian.Free Music Review: Wow!

Can't stop listening to this cd! I'm having to turn all my friends on to it. A friend at work said in his day, Mr. Cohen was referred to as the "master of erotic despair!" I would have to add "poet extraordinaire!" Each song has its own sound and thought unique unto its own. Bravo! Buy this cd for a wonderful musical experience.Free Music Review: Very Satisfied

For a long time I kept hearing a song on the radio but never heard the title or artist. Then I heard it on Dancing with the Stars and it turned out to be Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. An excellent compendium of Leonard Cohen's work, despite its complete omission of the DEATH of a LADIES' MAN album and arguable underrepresentation of several others. Unless you're a hardcore fan, The ESSENTIAL LEONARD COHEN will do; if you're not a fan at all, it qualifies as an essential purchase.
