Free Music Notes for The Best of Leonard CohenFree Music Review: Brilliant "old" songs of the Canadian master Hit: 5 StarsThe more I listen to the CD, the more I like it. Many fantastic songs, that only after hearing several get you thrilled. Like "Famous Blue Rain Coat" or "Last Man Standing". His More Best of Cohen is more commercial, whereaes this is really poetic accompained mostly by guitar.
Free Music Review: Classic folk-poetry Hit: 5 StarsThis guy is clearly not for everyone but if, like me, you like sad songs laced with wit and perceptiveness, and don't mind singers whose melodic range isn't quite up to their soulfulness, you'll love this collection. It's so intimate, you feel like you're sitting beside a man in a poorly-heated studio apartment, listening to him sing his pure, tortured heart out. Cohen's no whiner, though, just a wise surveyor of the chill that runs through love gone wrong.
Free Music Review: Power of words and music in one. Hit: 5 StarsThis Canadian singer is one of these who makes you laugh, and cry, and cry, and laugh... The lyrics are so powerful that they touch everybody's mind. Cohen's music is very simple, but strong and BEAUTIFUL! The best of Cohen is a «must-have»... Go see the «more best of...» now! It's great too!
Free Music Review: magical Hit: 5 StarsThis is one of my five favorite albums of all time. The music is beautiful, evocative, rich and lyrical. "Sisters of Mercy," "Famous Blue Raincoat" and, of course, "Suzanne," are majestic pieces of music. Cohen's voice is filled with emotion and delicacy, he evokes heartbreak, longing, sadness and hope. You owe it to yourself to get this album.
Free Music Review: One of the greatest songwriters of the last 30 years Hit: 5 StarsWhile Cohen is sometimes overlooked when compared with the great singer/songwriters who came up in the sixties (Dylan,Lennon and McCartney) he is equally as powerfull and provocative as any of the aforementioned. While not as prolific as Dylan (and with much of his best work behind him) he is blessed with an emotionally more engaging and intensely personal style of songwriting - it is confessional while at the same time being universal in it's sentiments. Before he started recording Cohen was a published poet and novelist of some renown and his songs reflect a craftmanship and poetic intensity that is unique. Combine these qualities with an interest in religious mysticism and the affairs of the heart and you have a mix that is infinetly rich and rewarding. Since this is a best of collection all of these songs are amazing but Famous Blue Raincoat stands out for me - simply the best song ever written about jealousy and the failure of a relationship.
