Free Music Notes for Les Miserables (1987 Original Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: Best Les Mis Ever
Hit: 5 Stars

I can't remember the first time I ever listened to Les Mis. My mom went to see it at the Kennedy Center when it first opened in the US and she saw it twice on Broadway. When she first saw it she bought the cassette, The Original Broadway Cast, and I started listening to it when I was only maybe a year or two old. I've always idolized the lead male characters in it: Terrence Mann, Colm Wilkinson, Michael Maguire, and David Bryant. Its always been my favorite.

My high school is now doing a Les Mis School Edition and I am Javert. In my trying to learn the role I listened to all the different Javert's I could find and Terrence Mann is definitely my favorite (although Philip Quast is a very close second). This is without a doubt the best Les Mis recording although they are all soooooo good.

Free Music Review: "I dreamed a dream
Hit: 5 Stars

I currently own the original Broadway cast recording, Symphonic Les Miserables and the tenth Anniversary concert recording.... When I really want to get my blood stirred I turn up the first act finale full blast(I know it isnt good for my stereo, but what the heck. When I first saw the show on Broadway back in 1987, I knew that the soundtrack was going to be a keeper! The fact that the cast was virtually unknown adds to the power and the mystique of the recording.... I just wish it were truly complete( a couple of lines are eliminated which would probably not be missed unless you were a purist like me. I've even played the tape full blast while driving on I 75. Another ten years from now, Les Miserables will still be on top as far as I am concerned!

Free Music Review: Incredible Score!
Hit: 5 Stars

Though maybe no theatrical score is perfect, "Les Miserables", based on the classic Victor Hugo novel, comes the closest for me.

Composers Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg have written an amazing & powerful score, with many classic songs. The spectacular Broadway cast, led by Colm Wilkinson, Randy Graff, Terrence Mann, and Frances Ruffelle, help bring this incredible music to life!

Best tracks include:

At The End Of The Day
I Dreamed A Dream
Master Of The House
Stars
Do You Hear The People Sing
In My Life
On My Own
A Little Fall Of Rain
Bring Him Home
Empty Chairs At Empty Tables

Great cast, great score ... must have!

Free Music Review: Les Miserables is the best and always will be!
Hit: 5 Stars

Most of the other reveiws seem bent on whinning about Frances Ruffelle, and all the other singers who weren't up to "their" expectations, but I've got a different point of view. I think the singers on this soundtrack were great; they may not have been the greatest of all time- but whose to say that Lea is always going to be the best Eponine? There are always new singers debuting (spelling?), and the old singers are always changing a bit as well. Imperfections are a part of life- ecxept it! Listen to the music and love it- because (this is just my opinion) Les Miserables will always be the best, no matter what form it takes, and the singers who bring it to touch the rest of the world should be loved as well.

Free Music Review: Greatest CD of all TIME!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I would have to rate this soundtrack 5 stars because of its wonderful singers and songs. Wilkinson is and probably will be the best Jean Valjean ever played. The Thenardiers were very well played. MME. Thenardier was quite good at oposing to her husband in "Master of the House". Javert did a spelnded job at being the antagonist. Marius was wonderful when he sang his duet with Epinone. Gaveroche had the best voice I have ever heard from a youngster. Same with Cossette. Epinone's voice was great. I have no idea how some people come up with the idea that she screeches. Her voice is beautiful. All in all, I would say this is a very good first soundtrack. I would definatly get it and start listening to it ASAP.
