Free Music Notes for Les Miserables (1987 Original Broadway Cast)

Free Music Review: The BEST!
Hit: 5 Stars

This show is and always will be THE BEST show on Broadway. So the soundtrack has to be great which this is! Colm Wilkinson will jerk your emotions with "Bring Him Home", get you excited with "Who Am I?" and will make you idolize him forever with every lyric he sings in this little package of perfection. Frances Rufelle, along with Colm Wilkinson, is beyond words. She brings you to tears with "A Little Fall of Rain" and leaves you astounded with "On My Own". But the other third charm that makes this soundtrack what it is is Michael Maguire for his AMAZING performance as Enjolras. Every song is great on this CD and just shows that you should buy it. That is all.

Free Music Review: Les Mis Rapture
Hit: 5 Stars

Les Miserables is one of my favoutite theatre experiences of all time. The Australian Broadcasting Commission played excerpts of this version a few months ago and inspired me to buy it.
Imagine the pleasure of listening to the whole version with a booklet containing the words, with tears rolling down my cheeks - bliss.
It is truly a wonderful version and with Colm Wilkinson leading the super talented Broadway Cast, I felt as if I was there as I pictured the theatrical experience again in my mind.
It is a two disc item, and comes with a booklet that lists the cast members and as mentioned before, the words to all the music. To be enjoyed over and over again.

Free Music Review: the most amazing musical ever!...
Hit: 5 Stars

i bought this cd, when my drama teacher informed me we would be doing a school version for our annual school production. During the 4 months of rehearsals i would come home and listen to this spectacular cd and sing along (this meant when my mum came to watch our production she knew all the words) The cast on this cd is incredible and the talent is unreal. As my little sister actually performed as Little Cosette, my favourite song has to be 'Castle on a Cloud', closely follwed by 'Stars' performed by the charcter Javert. An amazing musical in general and even better when i know i have actually performed it...and sung some of those songs.A complete pleasure to listen to!

Free Music Review: Wow. Seriously...just wow......
Hit: 5 Stars

I was going to see Les Mis for my birthday, so I wanted to preview the music to see how it sounded. Lemme tell ya, I was blown away. Of course, some of the songs and performers have to grow on you. For instance, ValJean (Colm Wilkinson) took a little getting used to for me. While his voice is powerful, he sounds strange in Overture/Work Song. I absolutely adore Eponine (Frances Ruffelle), Gavroche (Bradon Danner), Young Cosette (Chrissie McDonald), Enjolras (Michael Maguire) and Marius (David Byrant). They perform wonderfully. I prefer the Broadway cast to London cast, but that is a matter of personal opinion. Both are terrific. It's not a waste of money!

Free Music Review: Not the best cast, but still outstanding
Hit: 5 Stars

Great performances all around (Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball, who both did the London and Broadway recordings, and Judy Kuhn, who does Cosette here). Terence Mann and Randy Graff are good, but Philip Quast and Patty LuPonne, both from the London version, are better. Similarly, Frances Rufelle doesn't hold a candle to Lea Salonga, who tops Frances' performances with her more emotionally intense and more vocally precise rendition of Eponine's numbers (am not surprised that the majority of viewers prefer Ms. Salonga for the role, now that they have a choice).

The tempo in this version is much faster than London's and I like it better this way.
