Free Music Notes for Les Miserables Original London CastFree Music Review: Comparison of Les Mis Soundtracks Hit: 5 Stars
Before seeing Les Miserables in New York in June of 1987, I totally learned the pieces from the London soundtrack so I would be familiar with the music when I saw the play. Then I bought the Original Broadway Cast soundtrack at the theatre after I saw the play, so I am sentimental about both the recordings. However, I also have the 10th Anniversary DVD and it is so much better than either the London or the Broadway soundtracks. Of course, we have the visual to go along with the music but the orchestra is also much better than in either of the soundtracks. Even though all the scenery is not there, the actors are in costume and the audience gives the energy which the London and Broadway recordings do not have. I think both of those recordings were done in sound studios and of course they aren't going to be like the 10th Anniversary version. I have recently replaced my old Les Mis LP albums with CDs and I just love all three of the presentations. We really shouldn't compare the soundtracks with the 10th Anniversary concert. That should stand alone. Compare the two soundtracks only. Again, I love all three.
Free Music Review: Pure listening pleasure Hit: 5 Stars
The school edition was performed at a local High School and I had the privilege to observe rehearsals and watch four performances. I fell in love with the music and message of the musical. The recording of the original London cast enables one to hear clearly all the lines such as in the "Lovely Ladies" scene where you have more than one voice at one time. I also enjoyed the duet of 24601 with Javert. There are very few scenes not included in this recording. If you are looking for the "cart scene" you won't find the encounter. Nor will you find Fantine and the worker exchange. If you are familiar with the story, then you can easily listen to the music and visualize the scenes.
Free Music Review: orignal for a reason Hit: 5 Stars
The original London cast recording is one of my favourites. I wish that this were the entire thing, much like in the same way that Complete Symphonic recording is. You can dis' it all you want, but it IS the original, which EVERYTHING ELSE was based off of, and followed in its footsteps. It doesn't have obnoxious diva voices that we have now come to associate with Broadway, is not over produced or over done. This is the era from which musicals were changing into different things, away from goofy-feel-good fluff and into meaningful pieces of theatre. I really love that it sounds raw and unpolished, that the voices aren't perfect and the people sound real.
Free Music Review: Absolutely Amazing Hit: 5 Stars
This great soundtrack does well to one of the best musicals of all time. The recording is clean and vibrant and the original London cast shines. Any fan of Les Mis will do well to own this and anyone who wants a touch of class should get it too. It offers up love songs, songs of rebellion, drama, comedy, and runs the gamut of emotions. A fantastic piece. If I had one small problem it is that track 1 (Work Song) cuts out about 1/2 second early, though I believe this is do to the transitioning and closeness of recording of tracks 1 and 2. It's a small grievance that most probably will not notice.
Free Music Review: It was sad, but also very uplifting. Hope was always the word. Hope Hit: 5 Stars
I had Les Miserables in video. But, it was misplaced. The music is terrific and so moving. Just imagine spending nineteen years in prison for stealing some bread. I chose the 10 anniversary. I had seen it along time ago on tv and never forgot it. I would recommend this dvd for anyone who like music.
