Free Music Notes for The Jazz Collector Edition: Les Paul TrioFree Music Review: MY #1 Jazz Music Hit: 5 StarsOk, I'm not a jazz musician or even someone who you could describe as a jazz fanatic. But I'll guarantee that you will love this.
First of all, the music/selections is/are excellent. Then there is the phenomenal execution of Les et al. Once you get over the amazing technique (you can always go back to this), the music itself takes you over like a spiritual, drug ride (or at least what I imagine one would be like in heaven). Anyway, the price of this makes this simply the best value in jazz, period.

Free Music Review: Genius is intimidating! Hit: 5 StarsFor a mere mortal it is hard to understand how one person can have such far reaching and significant impact on popular culture and even communication in general. Les Paul certainly had it. Eight track recording, overdubs, the capital building echo chambers, guitar design would be enough to make someone famous. But then, he plays fabulous jazz guitar. He played with the masters, Christian, Reinhardt, et al, and he absorbed their style along with his own take on a melody. Every guitar student should listen to this, if only to hear the original Les before the overdubs figured heavily into his work. This collection has well scrubbed sound using the CEDARS system to remove snap, crackle and pop.
Free Music Review: Very Pleasant CD Hit: 4 StarsI'm old enough to remember when Les Paul's "High High the Moon" hit first came out and I have always been a fan of his guitar style. I enjoyed this CD and several others (Chester and Lester) that I ordered at the same time.
Free Music Review: Great collection Hit: 4 StarsPuts most modern players to shame. And Les is not forgotten - at 92, still plays every Monday at the Iridium in NYC (great show btw) with many amazing players making surprise visits to pay homage. Also the the recent PBS American Masters piece on Les.
Free Music Review: Something Great From The Man Who "Invented" The Electric Guitar Hit: 5 StarsLike Jelly Roll Morton a generation before him (who claimed to have "invented" Jazz and whose recodings set the standard for that era) these lovely early tracks from Les Paul deserve to be heard by the younger generation, and we older folk can do with some reminding, too.
What a pity to have all but forgotten him, so. If Les Paul (or Mary Ford) is still alive (I realise they would be a little old if they still were) I wish they could know that I and my wife haven't forgotten them and now that I have this excellent re recording, we never will.
