Oscar Levant is the forgotten genius of the piano. Nowadays we tend to remember his sardonic humour that added greatly to a few classic Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly movies, or from his self-deprecating appearances on 50's and 60's TV. But, people tend to forget that Levant was one of the world's highest paid concert pianists in the 40's, and a personal friend of Gershwin and interpreter of his music. This CD is a must-buy if you love Gershwin. Levant plays with beautiful technique, clarity, and power, that brings right out the heart and soul of Gershwin's music.
