Look, this album is not going to knock the wind out of anyone who isn't already a fan of either old-timey hill music or Levon Helm. It consists of authentic, rustic music, sweet and blue, performed by a group led by one of the truest American performers of the last 50 years (and that's saying a lot). I have long been a fan of this gentle warrior. Although the songs on this album are a "pert fur distance" from his work with The Band, there's enough here to keep me in Levon's army of followers as long as he decides to swing the ax.
