Free Music Notes for Dirt FarmerFree Music Review: Authentic Roots Hit: 5 StarsLevon's first studio release since who knows when is outstanding, but not Band-like. The 2007 Grammy winner for Best Traditional Folk Album this is a really rootsy album with fiddles, mandolins, and acoustic guitar all over it. The songs, whether recent or ancient, sound traditional. Some of these are songs Levon learned on the farm when he was a kid and his parents would sing them. But they all sound real, like he lived them and they're all brought to life by the wonderful production provided by Larry Campbell and Amy Helm.
Very highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Should be Bluegrass Hit: 3 StarsI thought I would be listening to some of the smooth old rock from the seventies yet every song that I listened to seemed very Blue Grass. Not that this is bad, I was just not expecting that. If you like that type of music then this is for you.
Free Music Review: An American Icon Hit: 4 StarsEven after a bout with throat cancer and resultant radiation therapy, Levon Helm's voice rings true with Americana. Not really bluegrass or country or rock, the music recorded here sounds like a track to American life in a time gone by.
Free Music Review: C&W in a different way Hit: 4 StarsThe CD made by Levon Helm, is a great record. He makes C&W in a different and new way.
The songs are great, you wil have a great time listening to this record.
Free Music Review: We Love Levon Hit: 4 StarsGreat overall work from one of the rock icons. Besides being a legend, he is a wonderful man, and a gentleman, who I have met a few times. Great work by Larry Campbell, and Theresa Williams, well deserved Grammy.
