Free Music Review: Possibly his best album!

I say that "The End of the Universe" is 'possibly' his best album, as I'm tossed between this second opus from the angry genius and his first offering "The White Album." Lewis is back for another round and this time, he's ticked off. Okay, every time he's back he's ticked off. :-)He takes on subject like the weather, Starbucks, Atlanta traffic and overpopulation, politics and politicians, the SuperBowl half-time show, religion, humor, and of course the occasional side-bar rant. He also touches a good deal on 9-11, but even considering his angry-comic reputation, he does this and all other bits with extraordinarily good taste and respect. He does not ever offend the audience for any lack of patriotism, but does point out the over-patriotic people who are making our anthems tired. Again, good taste is used and he makes some strong points about ourselves, our country, and our lifestyles.
Yes, he touched on the Weather Channel in the first album, but it's all new material this time. Every time I've heard him discuss the weather, each time it's fresh. I don't think he knows how to use old jokes anymore, as he's always topical and moving ahead with his act.
If you're a fan of comedy, angry or not, this album should definitely belong on your shelves. For those that have children or are offended by foul language, be warned, this album is full of banned public radio words, if you know what I mean. Just so I don't get blamed for recommending this and you happen to find out later. ;-) Otherwise, enjoy heartily!

Lewis Black has done it again,I have been playing this disc over and over and can't stop laughing.I have seen him twice over the past two years and I wish he appeared in this area more often.How is it that I had missed out knowing about him before then? Maybe his comedy is an aquired taste,he seems so abrasive,and his use of four-letter words may throw some people off,but after listening to him you realize the only way his comedy really works is when he's ranting.He shows you the stupidity of peoples fears,governments wonderful ways of [messing] with us,how we over reacted to situations after 9/11,and mans general stupidity.His comedy is for intelligent people,not the easily offended ,people that can see the humor that's right before our eyes,but we seem to miss it and need a man like him to point it out.
I said this in my review of his first album and I'll repeat it.
Do not,Do not operate a motor vehicle while listening to this album.Wait till you are in a non-moving envirenment to enjoy this truly funny album.
When this man appears in a club near you,go see him live !!!

It has become all too common that few are taken to task for saying or doing stupid things. What's worse is that no one seems to care.
This is the kind of thing that pisses Lewis Black off. The angrier he gets the funnier he is.
I first came to appreciate Mr. Black on the Comedy Central's "Daily Show." I always felt that there should have been more time devoted to Lewis Black.
I wanted more - I needed more - I had to have more!
So I went to my "mental health club," Amazon.com and bought every title available.
The End of the Universe, Rules of Engagement and Luther Burbank Preforming Arts Center Blues - ( I had already purchased the White Album)
Which one is the best? ALL OF THEM!
As I write this review - I realize that I still want more - so I am buying the DVD's.
There is nothing dated about this material. In 2006 it is just as - if not funnier than when first released.
Please Lewis keep recording it still is not enough!

Free Music Review: As good as (his) White album- biting, uproarious commentary

While this is a bit dated (it was recorded in 2001 and 2002 in Atlanta), the material Black covers stays fresh a a year or so later. A comedian like Black needs to perform this material - if he were simply a writer the work would still be as incisive but it would lack the energy - especially to the masses of the American public who will listen. His bits on this album cover the Super Bowl of 2001 (his dissection of a Britney Spears Pepsi ad is worth the price of the disc), tax refunds, the idiocy of airport security, problems of the roads, and one of his finest works being the title track. His anger is a reminder of something of a Kinison-esque attitude, however he is in his heart and mind a critic at large, and his routines are still fresh, and terribly funny, after hearing them once or twice. Fans of his "Back and Black" segment on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart should consider this a must-have.Free Music Review: His best album

While all of Lewis Black's comedy albums are very good, his second release, The End of the Universe, remains his best release to date. Released months after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, Black's delivery is passionate and intelligent throughout the album. Whether he's ranting on the over the top spectacle that has become the Super Bowl, the U.S. government's lack of common sense, or the ridiculousness of airport security, Black's observations are both humorous and accurate. Also worth noting is that unlike his more recent albums like the Carnegie Hall Performance, the album never becomes long winded or too political. Other tracks that deal with Jerry Falwell's controversial statements about 9/11 and global warming are also very funny and dead on. An excellent album from one of the best comedians working today, The End of the Universe shows Lewis Black at the height of his powers. Highly recommended.
