Free Music Review: Memories...
Hit: 4 Stars

Way back before Liberace got weighted down with flambuoyant costumes that would be the envy of middle-period Elton John and rings that would weigh down Ringo Starr, he was an entertaining pianist on TV. When I was a kid I had an LP of music from his TV show. Half of this CD is that album, which I hadn't heard in something like 45 years.

Liberace was never taken seriously, which is a shame, because he's right up there with Carmen Cavallaro and Eddy Duchin and Roger Williams. His playing was always entertaining. Maybe it's because he was an "entertainer" rather than a high-brow that he was scoffed at. And his later AIDS-related exposure has also shoved him into a niche he didn't deserve. Whatever, this pair of albums is a welcome addition to my easy-listening library, not to mention a nostalgic foray back into the innocent 50s.
