Free Music Review: Evolution or mainstreaming?
Hit: 3 Stars

OK- so "they turned down the amps and left the Creed comparisons behind". Now they've become the "smoothest ride in alternative".

Yeah, well not every change is for the best. I would call it "generic alternative" which defeats the purpose of alternative doesn't it?

I was disapointed. Turn the amps back up, forget smooth. I suggest that Lifehouse find the fire and passion that characterized their first two albums.

Free Music Review: 4-1/2 stars -- They are truly out of one-hit wonderland
Hit: 4 Stars

Like many others, I got hooked onto "Hanging By a Moment" back in 2000 when I first heard it. I liked "Breathing" too; still, I never got around to picking up No Name Face. I did, however, pick up Stanley Climbfall, and the problem I had with that album is that half of the songs sounded just like "Hanging By a Moment" (remember "Spin"?). Fortunately, Jason and the boys came back with a vengeance on their self-titled album.

"You and Me" is still a great song, but I think I'll agree with the editorial reviewer and say that "Into the Sun" is the best song, especially since Jason was able to do things with his voice that I wasn't aware he could do. And his songwriting is also stellar, because he is able to make otherwise played-out subject matter interesting. "We'll Never Know", "Chapter One" and "The End Has Only Begun" are wonderful examples of I'll-be-there-for-you, keep-your-head-up, and we-are-the-world songs, respectively.

Even though "Better Luck Next Time" made me say just that, the rest of this album is great and would make a wonderful addition to any contemporary rock collection.

Free Music Review: Lifehouse
Hit: 4 Stars

I heard Lifehouse on the radio a few weeks back and couldn't get the song out of my head. Finally, I decided to buy the cd. Turned out to be a great decision. Good listen.

Free Music Review: May Cause Drowsiness
Hit: 3 Stars

No, seriously. I think each of the songs may be great if played individually, but listen to a series of them at once and you're lost. The album is a tad bit boring and slow for rock.

In general, the music just are not catchy enough. I'm no musician, so I can't explain in technical terms why, but I know that I've listened to this CD at least seven times in a row and, very surprisingly, I only remember maybe three of the songs.

I've heard that the lyrics are great, and while I think this band does come up with more sophisticated than the typical I-love-you-why-did-you-go oh-oh-oh I've heard oh so very often, their ability with words does not make up what they lack musically. In any case, this is just not for me.

Free Music Review: Moving in a different direction
Hit: 5 Stars

If you havent heard this CD yet, be warned: theres less of a christian overtone to this CD than the 2 prior albums. jason seems to be focusing on relationships OTHER than his with God in this new lifehouse album. Good, but gloomy in a way that its not as positive as what you're probobly used to from this band. From 'come back down' to 'blind' & 'walking away' Jason croons about loss & sadness & the pain of it all. Even though im used to his past 2 albums being focused on God & his love relationship with Him, this cd does do the lifehouse name justice & you wont be let down. Jason delivers the goods, just not the way you'd expect this time around.
