Free Music Review: Hanging by a Lifeline
Hit: 5 Stars

The CD is terrible. It's really just hanging on by a thread, a toe nail, a... JUST KIDDING! No Name Face is a brilliant debut by one of the best new bands to come along in a long, long time. Lead by frontman Jason Wade, this young rock band made a huge splash with the unstoppable single "Hanging By A Moment." While subsequent singles didn't meet with quite the same success, that wasn't because they were bad. They just weren't quite what radio audiences were listening for. Actually part of the problem is that, as good as Lifehouse may be at writing songs, they don't seem to be all that adept at selecting the best radio singles from them. Many tracks were passed over that would have made great single material, among them "Quasimodo," a catchy, roaring rock tune with amazing guitar work. There is no question that these guys are much more than one hit wonders. In fact, as great as "Hanging By A Moment" is, there are superior tracks to be found for those willing to dive in and give them a good listen. Repeat listening will be richly rewarded.

A quick rundown of this highly varied collection of tunes is found below:

1. HANGING BY A MOMENT- Everyone seems to love this song-- and for good reason. Its completely unresistable, with uplifting lyrics, flawless instrumentals, and rich, soaring vocals. Best radio single in years.
10/10

2. SICK CYCLE CAROUSEL- One of the three singles from this disc. It's hard to explain why it wasn't a hit; it is a great song. Mellower than HBAM, but very catchy. The lyrics are outstanding.
9.6/10

3. UNKNOWN- This is another good tune. It does slow things down a bit more into something of a ballad but it more than carries it's weight.
8.7/10

4. SOMEBODY ELSES SONG- This song sounds strange with the first few listens but it does grow on you. Good tune.
8.5/10

5. TRYING- This is a slow, quiet, uplifting ballad with a great message.
8.9/10
**Check out the live version at LH's website. I actually prefer it.**

6. ONLY ONE- Yet another great soft rock song.
8.8/10

7. SIMON- A pure classic One of the best songs on the record bar none. The instrumentals really set it apart.
10/10

8. CLING AND CLATTER- This song veers in a new direction and presents us with yet another variation of the Lifehouse sound. I really like this one.
9.0/10

9. BREATHING- This song deserved a better fate when it was released for radio airplay. It is a soft, simple, beautiful ballad that got drowned out by the louder, raunchier stuff that cloggs airways today. Too bad; it really is a great song.
9.7/10

10. QUASIMODO- This song picks up the albums pace once again and, as mentioned previously, should have been a single. This is one rocker that really rocks.
9.5/10

11. SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN- I really love this song. It is beautifully written and is very meaningfull lyrically.
9.5/10

12. EVERYTHING- This aptly named song seems to sum up everything that Lifhouse is about. It starts out slowly and quietly, then picks up with a soaring chorus before absolutely flooring you by opening up the throttle at the end. This song is so hauntingly beautiful that it sends chills down my spine. WOW!
10/10

This record shows off the roots of one of the best alternative rock acts around. But if what you looking for is more "Hanging By A Moment"-like songs, don't worry, their follow up album, Stanley Climbfall, delivers more of that sound. This, however, remains an amazing album that shouldn't be overlooked just because it leans a little more to the quiet side of the rock scale than HBAM might have lead you to expect.

Free Music Review: Fantasic music!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD soon after it was released, and I'm glad that people are starting to take note of this great band. (If you can't tell, I'm a huge LH fan - just look at my name!)

This CD is great. Jason Wade (songwriter/guitarist/vocalist) is absolutely amazing on here. You can tell this guy has some major talent.

1. Hanging by a Moment - This was LH's mega-hit. Everyone's probably heard it by now. It's obvious why it was successful, so I don't think I need to talk about it too much...

2. Sick Cycle Carousel - It's a great song that has great lyrics to match. A great thing about Jason's voice is that you can always feel the emotion in it during all of his songs.

3. Unknown - This is another great song. I love the way the guitars play during it. It really attracted me to this song.

4. Somebody Else's Song - I think everyone can relate to a song like this. This song also shows off Jason's vocal range. Again, the guitars sound great - everything just works.

5. Trying - I think this is my favorite song on the CD. It really grew on me after a while. The lyrics are haunting, and so are the instrumentals. It's quite subdued, but it is absolutely gorgeous.

6. Only One - Another great song. Again, it shows off all the talent in this wonderful band.

7. Simon - This is another one of the quieter songs, but it is so beautiful and touching. You can tell that Jason really thinks and reflects on what he's writing. It isn't any of the stuff you hear on the radio - the "angst"y type stuff that seems to be all the rage.

8. Cling and Clatter - A good, solid song. The lyrics are really interesting, especially towards the end. Love it!

9. Breathing - This was another of LH's singles, but it didn't take off like "Hanging by a Moment." I think the radio audience just wasn't ready for something like this, but it is a great song. Again, it is a softer song, but it makes Jason's voice shine all the more.

10. Quasimodo - I really wonder why this song wasn't a single. It's a harder, edgier song than the other stuff on here, but I love it. It's one of those songs that can be really comforting at times.

11. Somewhere in Between - Another thoughtful song that can actually make you think. There is some lovely instrumental stuff in here that matches with the mood the song creates.

12. Everything - One of the best, and longest, songs on the album. It starts off softly, but it grows and grows until it reaches the climax. The instrumentals here are beautiful. This song is so relaxing and calming.

Just some quick background stuff on LH:

If you didn't know, Lifehouse used to be a Christian rock band, and the songwriter Jason Wade was a missionary kid. That's why the songs may have that type of influence in them. But they are a great band, and I think there background is what makes them so unique and great. Their music is much different than the "rock" heard on the radio - it is quite distinctive. But I really love this band, and they deserve all the success they get. So spread the word!! Get all your friends to go out and buy the CD! You'll all love it.

Free Music Review: Somewhere in between, what is real, just a dream
Hit: 5 Stars

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Hanging By A Moment is the song most people know but it's not the best on this album. Or second best. Or third, fourth, fifth, sixth, etc...The songs on this album are about as far from ordinary as you will find lyrically. And in fact, it seems that this is a Christian band cleverly disguised as a mainstream rock group. The messages are upbeat and positive and a lot of the songs that are supposedly love songs, I think are about God. But they can be appreciated either way. The lyrics are deep and all meaningful, no generic lyrics here. Here now is a breakdown of all the songs with a 1-10 rating. And, yeah, they all really ARE that good.

Hanging By A Moment: The first single, fast and upbeat. Really doesn't sound very much like the rest of the album but it's still very good, just not AS good. 8/10

Sick Cycle Carousel: Supposed second single, never heard it on the radio. It's about getting stuck doing something, or a bad trait or just an obstacle and trying to overcome it. 8.5/10

Unknown: Really not sure what this one is about...I think maybe it's about faith and how it keeps you going...very good song 9/10

Somebody Else's Song: I think it's about being like other people and not yourself. 8.5/10

Trying: Slow and soft, AWESOME. A song about not knowing everything and all to do but doing your best. 9/10.

Only One: It's about how someone (God, I'm pretty sure) never changes no matter what, even when everyone and everything else does. 8/10

Simon: A song about how people tear other people down to make themselves feel good and for those people who have been bullied and pushed around. "You're okay". 9/10

Cling and Clatter: A faster song compared to 4-7. It's about trying to find your way when there's so much going on around you and in your head. 8/10.

Breathing: The third single, the one that really caught my attention. A really wonderful song. Slow, soft, sincere. It's an 8...until I'm listening to it... 9/10.

Quasimodo: A really good song which I think is about peer pressure and wanting to fit in and stuff...8/10.

Somewhere Inbetween: I'm really not quite sure what it's about...but it's DANG GOOD! "I'm waiting for tonight, been waiting for tomorrow, I'm somewhere inbetween, what is real, just a dream" 10/10

Everything: Very soft for about the first 3 and half or 4 minutes and then gets a lot harder for the last 2 minutes or so. It's about...well...someone who's everyhing that you need(ahem, God.) Wow. I got the MP3 of this song and the next day got the CD..."And how can I stand here with you, and not be moved by you" 10/10.

It's really hard to actually pick a favorite song because they're all so good that whichever one I'm listening to seems to be my favorite at that moment...every song on this album is good enough to be a single. I'm having trouble cause I'm listening to the CD right now. Every song I listen to I want to raise the rating to 9... Another great thing about this album is that it inspires me to write my own songs. Overall, this is undoubtedly my favorite CD. I would advise anyone who likes rock, pop, or deep lyrics to get this CD.

Free Music Review: all i want, all i need - everything
Hit: 5 Stars

I first heard these guys during an episode of Roswell, during which the song 'Everything' played in the final scene. I remembered seeing the cover of the CD in a record store and went out the next day and bought it.

Unlike most of the people writing reviews here, I had never heard 'Hanging By a Moment' when I bought the album. As you can tell by the five stars, I am incredibly glad I did.

I can't imagine anyone NOT liking this album - honestly, it is a collection of 12 incredibly good songs. In trying to choose my favorites, I find it nearly impossible to mention one or two and slight the others.

Hanging is a great radio track, but, in my opinion, one of the weaker tracks on the disc. Track 2, Sick Cycle Carroussel, is really an amazing song -- the kind that will never be released but is the reason you love an album. The same can be said for The Unknown, track 3, which is wonderful (but one of my least favorites). The quality picks up as we reach track 4- Somebody Else's Song, a good pick for the second song released. It would put similar-sounding track by Creed or Bush to shame. Trying is the fifth song, the softest song on the album and just incredible if you're in the right mood for it. If you like to feel 'moved' by a song, Trying is the one to do it. Only One is the sixth song - another great rock song. Midtempo, and, like all these songs, fully fleshed out. You never feel that the potential of the song was unrealized. They wring everything possible out of each melody.

In the second half of the album, the quality continues. Simon, track 7, is in the same category as Sick Cycle - one of the album's best, but not the kind you'd hear on the radio. I absolutely love this song. Song 8 is a bit harder sounding - if you like Hanging, you should love this song. Song 9, Breathing, is probably the best single song on the album. It fits right in that category between 'great album song' and 'great radio song.' The lyrics are tremendous. Song 10, Quasimodo, has an apt title and it is another 'hard' song - like Hanging. Song 11 I usually forget, Somewhere in Between, and it's an appropriate title. It's between 2 great songs, and is easy to forget, but judged on its own, it is really great. Sadly, it has to be right before Everything, the best last song I have ever heard on an album. It is exactly the way you want to end an album, and the album would be worth the price just for that song.

Fortunately, you get all these other incredible songs at the same time. I can't say enough how great this album is. My musical tastes run the gamut, but I typically like the pop/rock Matchbox 20/Counting Crows/U2/etc. but any type of labeling would miss the point. Anyone with any serious love of music will love this album. I don't recommend it to people that will listen through an album one time and then just play their favorite tracks -- it takes a few listens to become hooked on the album. But once you love the album - it's just a great feeling. I've never written a review for amazon before, but i really felt compelled to by this album. Every person that loves music should own it.

Free Music Review: Lifehouse: two thumbs UP!
Hit: 5 Stars

Im a teenage christian guy who loves rock, and a good variety of rock at that. my favorite bands being pod and switchfoot. i love hard hitting guitar riffs yet i cant get enough of a smooth flowing song with great rythym. this album, no name face , truly was more to the smooth lite rock side but there was a song or 2 that suited by harder rock cravings. i bought the album for the oh so addictive " hanging by a moment" but as i listened to the cd more often i found myself loving most every song on there.

Hanging By a moment gets a 9.5 out of 10 because its simply awesome how they take a slow moving catchy tune into a fast pace hard hitting chorus just blows me away

tracks 2 thru 4 all get 8.5's according to my high standards. they were 7's until i really began to listen and i found myself not wanting to skip over them

trying(track 5)only gets a 7 and its the most mediocre song on the album because it just doesn,t have any..... zest.

Only one (track 6) is another song which took me awhile to really appreciate the verses i like more than the chorus they have a great flowing melody. a definite 9

track 7, Simon, does haven't much of a tune but the lyrics are great they really strike my heart. 8 or 8.5 i cant decide

cling and clatter, track 8, gets a score of 9. it is really fast paced and has a great fast moving chorus where the words really flow. the verses are pretty good but nothing like the chorus

breathing (track 9) although totally different from hanging by a moment is tied for my favorite track. a slow paced song with deep lyrics has an amazing melody and rythym. this great flowing sound exists in both the verses and the chorus another 9.5 breathtaking!

track 10, Quasimodo, contains both the best chorus and the best lines on the album
there goes my pain
there goes my chains
did you see them fallin?

there goes the world off of my sholders
there goes the world off of my back
THERE IT GOES!

it was one of my instant favorites and well deserving of a 9.

tracks 10 and 11 are slower songs focused on deep lyrics these songs also took time to appreciate but now i love them both songs are 8.5's

everything, the last track is also slow with deep lyrics a great way to end a great album. the lines following are a simple yet great way to end the cd

caus your all i want,
your all i need,
your everything,
everthing!
