Free Music Review: "everything" i want in a debut album
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first heard "hanging by a moment" from Lifehouse's 2000 debut "No Name Face", I actually did not expect to like this album. I felt like that song had been done before many times. But then I heard "Breathing" and it had a different sound and it had quite moving and powerful lyrics. So I got the cd and listened to it and now I can't stop. Singer-songwriter Jason Wade shows tremendous writing talent on intense songs such as "Sick Cycle Carousel", "Cling and Clatter" , "Quasimodo", and "Everything". He also shows guitar and vocal versitility throughout the record. He goes from crooner to belting it out (as on the haunting "Everything"). This is a very strong debut by a young band. Listening to it, one can see they are here to stay.

Free Music Review: Good stuff
Hit: 4 Stars

Let's face it, people who write reviews on these pages only rate the albums they love, hence you don't see too much real cryticism here.
Although I bought this record through Amazon's list mania, from a cutomer that had liked similar music to my tastes, I was quite dissappointed about this album, as I couldn't separate in my head the different sounds / instruments. It had good qualities to be come top notch, but sounded all too confusing.
It took me 5 to 6 listenings of the CD to realise how good it really was, but unfortunately I believe the producer was not good enough to give more shine and brilliance on the sounds and ideas the band generates.
The lyrics are extremely well conceived, sung in a very personal way that makes it difficult to catch but very enlightening and personal.
Like I said, really good stuff here. I'll buy the next releases from them, I'm sure they'll be as good as this one.

Free Music Review: An Exceptional Debut
Hit: 4 Stars

Man, I wish you could give out half stars....This album certainly deserves 4 1/2, at least. And for those of you who aren't thinking about buying it because it's a "Christian" album, please don't let that scare you!!! Their songs may have some Christian influence, but they rarely come out and say it directly, and it is a great rock album.

1. Hanging By A Moment- Certainly one of the best songs in 2001, the year it came out, got a lot of airplay, great transitions, and a good introduction to the band's music.

2. Sick Cycle Carousel- One of my favorite tracks on the CD. Again, great transitions into the chorus, meaningful lyrics, and a great chorus.

3. Unknown- Another great song with a catchy melody, good lyrics, and good guitar lines between vocal parts.

4. Somebody Else's Song- Good instrument solo in the middle, more interesting, thought-provocing lyrics, and a solid track.

5. Trying- I love the violin solos, and also how the song starts off quiet and mellow, and more of the instruments come in later. The piano parts at the end are quite haunting.

6. Only One- More great melodies, guitar parts, and lyrics, another example of what a great band this is!

7. Simon- Another of my favorites, definately a slower-paced song, but powerful lyrics and melody, and more great instrument transitions. Jason Wade shows off his vocals nicely, and the ending is a reverse of the beginning, with the instruments fading out.

8. Cling and Clatter- Another great song with interesting guitar sounds at the beginning, certainly a bit more "rock" than several of the previous songs, great chorus and interesting bridge lyrics/music.

9. Breathing- One of my absolute favorites, the beginning melody is haunting and draws you in, the chorus is amazing and the lyrics are powerful, and if you want spritiual songs, this is probably the best one on the album.

10. Quasimodo- Another of my favorites, the song has an apt title, although you'll have to think about it... Probably the most outright rock song on the album, great lyrics, and I love how each chorus adds on a new part until they get to the end. Also love the toned-down bridge, although some of the lyrics in it are similar to "Simon."

11. Somewhere in Between- Probably the weakest song on the album overall, it's a good song technically, but when surrounded by some of the others it doesn't make much of an impact. Still a good melody and good lyrics.

12. Everything- Probably a song that will take a few listens to truly appreciate. The first half or so is quiet, with toned down lyrics, and then the band comes in and totally adds "everything" to the song. The lyrics become more vibrant, the melody shines, and, once again, the song fades out again at the end. Powerful finale piece.

Free Music Review: Lyrical depth at its finest
Hit: 5 Stars

"No Name Face," the debut record by Lifehouse, deserves to be acclaimed for its lyrical depth and expression of deep, personal emotion. This is truly a record of substance which makes eminent several components of the human condition: longing and devotion as expressed on "Breathing," a sense of dejection portayed on "Simon," as well as the great sense of hope and gratitude expressed on "Everything." For all listeners interested in poetic, personal music about real-life issues, I highly recommed purchasing "No Name Face" by Lifehouse.

Free Music Review: one of the best cds ever
Hit: 5 Stars

this was one of the best cds i have ever bought... i bought it on the strenght of Jason's voice in Shrek 1. ... he sang "you belong to me". I won't go into each song as they are all realy good... my favourite is "trying" which i hear he wrote when he was only 15... a genius. I don't think their other 2 cds are anything as good but it would have been impossible to beat this album... every collection deserves this one.
