Free Music Notes for No Name FaceFree Music Review: A Lasting Favorite Hit: 5 Stars
So here it is, roundabouts four years after this CD was released and I'm still listening to it... and loving it and discovering new things about it everytime I do. Now, as corny as that sounds, it's quite true and in my opinion, it's what makes a good CD stand out as a stellar CD.
'No Name Face' is a set of songs that just refuses to get lost in the shuffle of your collection like so many 'popular' releases that grab your attention and then quickly fade from enjoyability. True, this CD does have catchy tunes and yes, Lifehouse did have a huge radio success with 'Hanging By a Moment' but under all that fluff, there's actual substance here, not to mention a sound that's unique and fresh enough to set it comfortably apart from others in this 'rock' genre without making it stand outside the nice, comfortable label.
I've long had the sneaking suspicion that this band slips into my mind when I'm not looking and grabs what it finds there to incorporate into music. Why else could I listen to almost every song on here at one point or another in my life and completely relate (and I mean completely. It's like these songs were written for the Soundtrack of My Life)? But after reading other reviews, I find that I'm not the only paranoid soul who feels this connection to Lifehouse's lyrics. Which has lead me to beleive that they've not been stalking my brain, but instead have been able to tap into everything that goes with human existence: all the emotions and events and people; they've taken all that and tossed in some wondefully satisfying music ranging from edgy rock to soulful, almost living ballads that's eclectic, interesting and very powerfully real no matter who you are.
This is one of my favorite CDs in my rather extensive and genre-spanning collection and there's not a person I wouldn't reccommend this to. It's just that good. Grab it, give it a listen, and just try to not get pulled in.
Free Music Review: They can rock with the best of 'em Hit: 5 Stars
This is really an awesome debut CD by an incredible band. The music on this CD is beautiful, it really is. I love it. I bought it because of Hanging By a Moment and was blown away by all the other tracks on the CD as well. There is not a sngle one that I feel the need to skip. Here are some highlights: ~Trying: about not having everything figured out. "I'm just trying/ to find my way/ the best that I know how." This song was the story of my life once upon a time. ~Simon: about being bullied "cause the weak will seek the weaker till they've broken them, could you get it back again, would it be the same?" ~Quasimodo: about breaking free from everybody's expectations and the stigma that comes with being different. "Does it scare you that I can be something different from you, would it make you feel more comfortable if I wasn't?" ~Everything: this one is really open to interpretation (well, I guess they all are) but I think it's about God. "You are the life to my soul, you are my purpose, you are everything." It starts out slow and mysterious, but it builds, so by the end of the song, it is incredibly powerful. While Lifehouse isn't a Christian rock band (or at least they don't call themselves that) they are certainly rock with a conscience. You won't have to worry about finding anything offensive in this CD. What I like most about it though, is the wide range of topics discussed. It's not an entire CD of cliche pop love songs. There are songs about life. And the love songs that are on the CD (Hanging by a Moment, Breathing) are good love songs--they feel real. So I guess this is a long way of saying that I highly recommend this CD to everybody! Even my friend who likes alternitive/punk loves this CD. P.S.--If you think these guys can't rock, see them in concert. They will blow you away. They can rock with the best of them. Oh, and Jason Wade is really really hot.
Free Music Review: lifehouse fan (girl) looking for "someguy" reviewer Hit: 5 Stars
Wow. That's the only word I can use to describe the songs on this cd. "Someguy"'s review put into words exactly what I now feel about Lifehouse... it's so sweet the way he described how two of the songs made him want to reach over and hug his friend. (There's something about you.. if you're reading this. Contact me if you can. I feel like we were meant to be friends or something. It's hard to explain.) I totally fell in love with Lifehouse a few nights ago after I found out about their latest single, "Sick Cycle Carousel" and went to their site to listen to it. I ended up watching the music video on the site (wish I had cable) and was totally and utterly touched by both the song and the emotions I could see Jason Wade pouring fourth as he sang. After that, I came upon a fan website, where she allows visitors to listen to all the songs from the cd in its entirety, which I did. I loved each and every one of the songs, which is one of the rarest things that could ever happen to a picky cd buyer like me. Usually, about 4 good songs on any one cd is enough for me to go out to buy it (a girl has to have standards after all), so for this cd to have songs that I thoroughly love... it's amazing. I'm going to go out to buy it as soon as I can set aside enough money to spend on myself. Lifehouse is now my absolute favorite band, and it thrills me to know that this isn't an obsession. I have a deep and genuine respect for this talented band, and this time it doesn't have anything to do with any of their physical appearances, as it did with the last group I was obsessed with. They have genuine, heartfelt, real raw talent and Jason Wade's rich and unique voice only adds to the essence of Lifehouse. So my final words are.. go out to get this cd because it's a purchase that you'll likely cherish for a long, long time if not the rest of your life.
Free Music Review: 5-star cd (some parts good, others great enough to push it to five) Hit: 5 Stars
this is one of the few cds i can listen to all the way through and enjoy all the songs.
first, i agree with other reviews that said "hanging by a moment" is one of the weaker tracks on the record. every few times i listen to the cd, my favorites change. "sick cycle carousel" has a catchy acoustic guitar melody underneath; "trying" is a great mood song, very lyrical; the vocal stylings on "only one" (esp. the second verse) are interesting; "simon" is a kind of "get up, it'll be better, you're not alone" song that sounds as though it comes from some very real experience; "quasimodo" is a rousing song with an anthem-like chorus; "somewhere in between" is another good slower song with a whimsical edge; "everything" is sure to make any girl's heart melt if it was written sincerely for her (as wade wrote it for his girlfriend) - its simple and full of feel-good cliches; in the chorus and at the end, wade asks "would you tell me/how could it be/any better than this?" and you feel like nodding and saying "it can't"
to be honest, while the songwriting is better than average, it isn't absolutely incredible. the band has its better moments lyrically on "simon" and "only one" as they step away from some more trite worn out phrases and lyrics. what really carries this cd and all lifehouse material is jason wade's unique and surprisingly versatile voice. to get what i mean, listen to the last minute of "simon". as an unbiased listener i'd say: not only is his voice instantly recognizable but it is simply really pleasing to listen to - a slightly subdued/more vulnerable and more "emo" version of true rock vocals. he can take it from melodic to a harder vocal on tracks such as "cling and clatter". as a girl i'd say: his voice is damn sexy - like warm brandy pouring over the senses.
Free Music Review: Every Island needs a lifehouse. Hit: 5 Stars
`No Name Face'. The fascinatingly brilliant album from Lifehouse, a band on the Dreamworks record label. Its blend of Pop/Rock and Grunge liken it to a mix of `Creed' and the `Beatles' with perhaps a few `Semisonic' guitar moments in there. Lifehouse seem to be the new breed of meaningful rock bands, unlike Creed and U2 though, they appear surer of their faith. Their lyrics about `screaming in tongues`, `faith making everyone scared' and `falling into grace', leaning toward the Christian faith. Of course depending on which side of the spiritual fence you sit on this point is arguable. Some Christians may say Lifehouse actually cover their faith with vague references, non-Christians may shy away from away from the lyrical content because it is more obviously spiritual than the latest R'n'B tune. Either way, Lifehouse can back up whatever they are about with an engaging sound that captivates the listener from the opening bass slide right through to end of the 12 track album. `No Name Face' tells of a search for truth in a society content to live with mediocrity, and of the reality that we can't do life on our own, no matter how much we try to. Track 2 Sick Cycle Carousel explains this frankly. The album shifts musically with every new song, tracks 4 (Somebody else`s song) and 10 (Quasimodo) would be at home in a 'Best rock in the world.... Ever' album. Whereas tracks 9 and 12, Breathing and Everything, are just down right worshipful. And that is what gives Lifehouse the edge, they are not afraid to be personal, they take the listener on a musical journey to discover truth. No matter what your spiritual sympathies, if you're into quality sounds Lifehouse will entertain you from start to finish.
