Free Music Notes for No Name FaceFree Music Review: I haven't heard a better debut CD. Hit: 5 Stars
[....]What a great debut effort! Nothing really ground-breaking or innovative, just really good consistent music from beginning to end. That’s why it earned 5 stars. There’s not a bad track on the whole CD, and that’s rare. 20 year-old lead singer Jason has maturity both in his voice and lyrics will beyond his young age. It’s also the kind of voice you don’t get tired of after just a few tracks. Part of that might have to do with the mixing. The overall sonic balance on this CD ranks right up there with the best I’ve ever heard, especially noticeable when played on a high-end stereo system. Just another pleasant surprise. So let’s discuss the songs: Instead of a track-by-track review, I’ll just hit some of the highlights in case you get a chance to preview it. My favorite: Simon – This song simply awesome! Very insightful lyrics about feeling alone and insecure. The somewhat haunting vocals have tremendous power and perfectly convey the feeling of the song. It’s quite possibly flawless. Strong second: ‘Somewhere in Between’ and ‘Everything’ – Both songs are somewhat similar to Simon but with a slightly more positive feel. The way that ‘Everything’ builds up from a very slow start into a powerful anthem is incredible. If you have a very good audio system this track will push it to the limits. If you don’t have one, this track my force you to upgrade. Bottom line – If you like ‘Hanging by a Moment’ you’ll love this CD!
Free Music Review: Hanging on for more than a moment. Hit: 5 Stars
I ran into this Cd two days after it's release. I had never heard anything on it. At the time I listened to it, it was ranked somewhere around 650 on ranking. I listened to some of the samples. I was shocked! This had to be some of the best material I had heard put out in a long time. I ( no joke) got directly up and ran to a record store to purchase this CD. I got there, and apparantely it hadn't gotten off the ground yet because I couldn't find it. I was about to get upset when I stared in the middle of the Limp Bizkit CD's and there sat one lonely copy. I snagged it. When I got it home I put it in my CD player and it has rarely moved since. Everytime I listen to it, I find a song that has some meaning that hits close to home or is just plain awesome. The song that mainly got me to buy the CD was Sick Cycle Carousel. It starts out slow, then has a little hook, then an even bigger hook. I hadn't even heard "Hanging by a moment" which is their first single and is climbing the billboard charts even as I write this. Wade ( the frontman) has so much emotion behind his words. You can tell that these songs are very personal. For most people out in the real world, these songs have potential to hit close to home. Quasimodo is a song that seems to be about letting something go that has long been a burden. I can't really say enough about this CD. It has climbed sohigh on charts. I saw it at 400, and that was just the otherday. Today, as I am writing this it is at 85! What a leap! Help itclimb some more! Buy this CD! I can solemnly promise you that you will not regret it.
Free Music Review: Living a Dream: Lifehouse Holding on to the Moment Hit: 5 Stars
The sound is something a cross of Pearl Jam and Third Eye blind, and the intelligent, and spiritual lyrics complete the sound that can be identified as their own. There is something haunting about Wade's voice, and the lyrics linger in the mind. The songs have good dynamics, and are not monotone for the most part. If slower, more mellow rock is not your cup of tea, do not buy this album, you will be disappointed. If you do like mellow rock, such as Creed, Pearl Jam etc. add this album to your collection, you will love it. This was not an album I had a plan to buy, but after hearing "Everything" off of Napster I absolutely had to have the CD. I rarely listen to the radio because I have so many CD's but sometimes I force myself, and when I heard Lifehouse on the radio ("Hanging by a Moment") I was excited, because they certainly deserve some recognition. In all honesty I love the entire album, and do not feel the need to skip any songs. I do have some personal favorite songs from the album. "Everything," track twelve, is a song that explores the emotions of being completely enamored with someone. "Quasimodo," track ten, is uplifting and at the same time gives the album a bit of an edge...the drums are a bit more prevalent, and the guitar progressions are more edgy as well. I also love "Someone Else's Song," and "Only One." Overall, I would highly recommend this album to listeners of bands such as Dexter Freebish, My Friend Steve, Pearl Jam, Creed, Third Eye Blind etc. They are still obscure enough that you can probably introduce people to them proudly....
Free Music Review: No Name Face - One of the Best Albums I have bought yet! Hit: 5 Stars
Unlike a lot of people I had never heard of Hanging By A Moment when I found this C.D. Where I live there is only one or two radio stations, the one I listen to never plays any good songs, all it plays is that bubble-gum pop that drives me absolutely crazy, but my only other choice for a station is country. One day while I was searching for a new c.d. I stumbled onto this one and was intrigued. On a whim I bought it and have never regreted my choice. The whole c.d. is excellent, it is one of those rare c.d.s that you could listen to over and over again without getting sick of the songs. It never makes you want to turn it off. Instead the vocals set a tranquil, easy mood that helps me relax after a long day. Out of 5 stars it really deserves 10 but I can only give 5. :( Overall the songs are catchy and entrancing. Hanging By A Moment is definetly a shining jewel but don't forget to listen to the other songs! Other songs on this c.d. that should be payed attention to are Trying, Simon, Quasimodo and Everything. But truly every song is worth listening to! I never skip any of the songs on this c.d. unlike all of my others. All though this band is still little none at the moment they are destined for greatness. No Name Face is the best debut album I have EVER heard and it leaves you wanting more of these great songs. I can't wait until LifeHouse releases a second album, they have the most promise and potential! So come on people, spread the word. More people need to know what a great band this is and what an excellent c.d. they have.
Free Music Review: A truly classic album Hit: 5 Stars
"No Name Face", the debut album from Lifehouse, shows an alternative band in the same vein as Creed, Bush, and Nickelback, but there is something more inside this band. The lyrics are some very strong writing, and the music is beautiful, and put together, it is impactful, powerful writing, great music to listen to when you are questioning the road you are going down in life.
The album spun off two strong singles. "Sick Cycle Carousel" describes a painful relationship where neither person knows when to end it, so it keeps going and going with no end in sight, a story for most in relationships. Then there is "Hanging By a Moment", the love song of 2000 and one of the top hits of that year. The song is about falling in love and being scared of putting your heart and feelings on the line. The song describes letting go, having faith, and seeing where your heart and love takes you. The song is fasicinating and is beautiful to play for the one you love.
Like I said in a past review, I want to clarify something about this band, one of the biggest misconceptions. This is NOT a Christian Band, and never has been one. They are an alternative band. They have never once been promoted as a Christian Band. Yes, one of the guys in the band does have missionary parents, but their music isn't Christian based. Yes, they like to make references to spirituality in their lyrics at times, but other artists do that as well.
Get "No Name Face", easily one of the best albums of 2000 and even of all time, today.
