Free Music Notes for The Texas-Jerusalem CrossroadsFree Music Review: The Book of Revelations in Rock FormThis band is the greatest thing to ever come out of Denton, Texas. Before I tell about the music in this album let me tell you about the ideas brought forward in the lyrics. In the first track you are informed that the U.S.A. is the "Heart of Jerusalem". They believe that Texas is the promise land that Jesus talked about in the Bible. Similarities are made between Texas and Jerusalem in the Bible (i.e. the River Jordan is actually the Rio Grande, the "Lone Star" State is named that for the star that led the wisemen). The second coming is discussed in great detail and we are told cast down all the false idols. The hell, fire, and brimstone old time religion sermon preached through out the hour and a half long album is nothing like the happy messages praised by the typical Christian bands. Lift To Experience is the book of Revelations, where as most Christian bands are teen spirituallity bibles. Now to the music. At times it's very Jeff Buckley and frontman Josh T. Pearson's voice is the main instrument followed by sporatic and spacey reverb-washed guitar leads. At other times the songs follow more My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth, with heavy yet melodic songs, that are little epics in their own sense. Every instrument blends perfect with its counterparts as if a gift from above. On "The Ground So Soft", Pearson sings the old hymm "Death Where Is Thy Sting", being a devout Methodist, I recognized it was blown away. In several places a fiddle makes an appearance showing their country influence. This album is beautiful and absolutly an epic masterpiece. You finish this album and it is as if heaven is opening up right above you. Truly a gem of an album.
