Free Music Notes for Like, Omigod! The '80s Pop Culture Box (Totally)Free Music Review: Good compilation, awful sound Hit: 2 StarsSome of my downloads from Kazaa sound better than the songs on this collection. I doubt that Rhino used the master tapes for this set as most songs have serious imperfections. That's a shame because the songs selection is very good. After listening to three or four songs, my ears start ringing. This collection is probably more suitable for car listening on long trips. For this reason I will never buy another Rhino collection. Period.
Free Music Review: Rhino Made It...What'd You Expect? Hit: 2 StarsWell, like many of the reviewers, this set has lots of well known songs, but many tracks are not worth the price.
I have been collecting 80's songs via iTunes for a few years now. I have 7 discs that I made myself of 80's hits. A lot of this set included. I, however, was able to skip downloading Don Johnson, Billy Crystal and many of those random, unwanted songs that have been mentioned.
When I am finished with my "Ultimate 80's Box Set" I will have about 15 discs of all the songs I remember hearing during those long bus rides to and from school in the 1980's. Of course, I listen on an iPod, so I don't need the discs anymore.
My rule of thumb is if it is made by "Rhino" don't bother. It will be overpriced, poorly constructed, poorly compiled, poor quality, not remastered and you'll eventually be left feeling ripped off.
Go to iTunes. I have only had a few songs not come up so far. Some of those have eventually made it to iTunes. If you can't find it there, just wait...it won't take long.
Free Music Review: A whole lotta Eighties for the money. Hit: 5 StarsNo compilation, even a seven-disc set like this one, can capture all the significant pop music from a decade, but Rhino has come closer than anyone else. There are a few tunes that I wouldn't have included, but they're probably the very ones someone else has been looking for. That's just the way of compilations. But the number of great tunes that are included makes it easy to overlook that minor quibble.
Putting together a collection like this from individual recordings would be difficult and expensive, especially considering the number of one-or-two-hit-wonder bands that show up on these discs.
Packaging and artwork is first-rate, and there's a surprisingly interesting booklet that provides a little background about each song and artist.
Whether you recall the music of the Eighties with nostalgia, or just want a good indroduction and overview of the significant artists and recordings of the decade, you won't be disappointed with this set.
Free Music Review: OMIGOD!!! Hit: 5 StarsThis is one of the best box sets I've seen in a LONG time. Each CD has approximately 20 songs! That's about 140 SONGS!!! They all are guaranteed to take you back down memory lane. I am glad I made my purchase thru Amazon, I almost spent $25 more dollars at a major store. Thanks Amazon!! =)
Free Music Review: Totally tubular Hit: 5 StarsI did my research before buying this collection and I'm really glad that I did, because I feel that this collection is the best out there when it comes to 80s music. Sure it doesn't have all of the greatest hits, but it has a lot of them, plus some that you may have forgotten about; not intended too. There are a ton of familiar 80s songs in this collection and the inside the cool box are even more goodies!
It's worth the purchase. I bought it for my wife, she's an 80s music fan, and she loves it. Even her little brother who's more of a 90s kid loves the collection!
This will make a great Christmas gift too, since it's so easy to wrap, and nobody will guess what it is until they unwrap it!
Enjoy!
