Free Music Review: The Hype is No Joke
Hit: 5 Stars

First, I don't listen to too much rap/hip-hop/whatever. Mostly because I can't get too excited about the raps (too much repetitive boasting with a limited vocabulary), but also because the performers seem to take themselves way too seriously.

Don't get me wrong, there is some timeless music in the genre, and the highest profile rappers are genuine pop stars. For perspective, I continue to like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Blackalicious, Eminem, Fat Lip, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Eric B & Rakim, and more. For my money, these are smart artists with a sense of humor (well, maybe Cypress Hill is just fun).

With all that in mind, I have to say that Lil Wayne may be the king of the hill. Like many many people, I've been following him through the unofficial mix tapes ("I Feel Like Dying" is genius). This recording is the work of an artist at the top of his technique, with creativity and imagination overflowing. I won't begin to describe the wordplay, other than to say Lil Wayne throws away phrases that lessor artists would put in their hook. This is the work of someone who clearly loves words.

If you only listen to this one time, it will be worth the cost!

Free Music Review: DON'T BELIEVE ALL OF THESE HATERS
Hit: 5 Stars

WHAT I WANT TO KNO IS...WAYNE RELEASED ALMOST HALF THE CD...NOW THEY PLAYED THAT ON THE RADIO AND YOU HATERS LIKED THOSE, SO TELL ME WHY YOU'RE DISSING THE WHOLE ALBUM. THIS ALBUM IS INGENIUS...YOU ALL WANT THAT CASH MONEY WAYNE AND GUESS WHAT PEOPLE...HE GREW UP!!!!! HE SWITCHED UP HIS STYLY...YOU KNEW KANYE WAS GOING TO MAKE HIS SOUND "DIFFERENT"...HE'S NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE SAME CRAP HE USED TO! IF YOU WERE A TRUE WAYNE FAN...YOU ALL WOULD APPRECIATE HIS GROWTH. I LOVE EVERY TRACK ON THE ALBUM BUT I WOULD SAY MY LEAST FAV IS "3 PEAT" AND MY FAV IS "DONTGETIT". YALL ALSO SAID WAYNE IS SUPPOSEDLY BEING "LAZY" IN HIS RAPS AND THAT THE PEOPLE HE'S COLLABERATING WITH ARE OUT SHINING HIM...CRAP...WAYNE IS SIMPLY BEING WAYNE...HE'S NOT GOING OVER DO ANYTHING...HE USES A TONE TO CONVEY THE SONG...IN "TIE MY HANDS" YOU FEEL THAT PASSION IN WAYNE....YOU FEEL THE HURT KATRINA CAUSED HIM. WAYNE DOESN'T HAVE TO SPILL HIS GUTS ON EVERY TRACK BECAUSE =WATEVER= HE DECIDES TO INEVITABLY IS SO STOP HATIN AND GET YA RAP KNOWLEDGE IN CHECK!!!! TRAITORS

Free Music Review: Cultural Perspective
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is incredible with the exception of a couple of songs. If you're looking for "Hip-Hop in its pure form", this is not the album for you. The fact is that what is considered as "pure" in the hip-hop world is completely stagnant, and by striving for purity we lose what makes hip-hop great - new sounds and modes of expression. "Pure" hip-hop is an east coast phenomenon and its qualities reflect that. Lil Wayne is from New Orleans, and the qualities of his music, from delivery (behind the beat or lazy as some might call it) to subject matter are reflective of the New Orleans experience. Being a jazz musician from Louisiana, I relate to his delivery, which is incredibly musical. He uses rhythms and emphasis like a jazz singer or soloist rather than the consistent rhythms of a rapper. The actual content of his verses is definitely subject to debate. Much of the album is bravado, like almost all hip hop albums are (see Jay-Z, BIG, Tupac), but many of the tracks are filled with meaning and depth. Take a few listens, it gets better with time.

Free Music Review: I love you Wayne!
Hit: 5 Stars

First of all, God bless you Wayne. Congrats to you on your successes. This is a huge milestone for you, for your label and for hip hop. This is an excellent CD through and through. Everyone is not going to like everything and that's ok. Your bank account speaks favorably to those who do enjoy it. :) We have all these so-called, self-proclaimed music critics out here feeling like they have graduated with a PHD in music appreciation and they have come in here berating your work. Let them hate. If you had allowed negativity to hinder your progress, you would have been finished long ago. Furthermore, I don't think any of those with negative things to say have sold even 100 copies of any kind of musical production so... who cares? Keep doing what you're doing because you're doing it well. Whether or not you are THE best... continue being YOUR best and I will keep enjoying your work and buying your music. Oh and again... this CD is amazing!!!!

Free Music Review: Weezy did what he said he was going to do!!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Now I am not one of those , just hopped on the bandwagon type fan because of his mix tapes, I honestly have been listening to him since Tha Block iz Hot. Then honestly he wasn't that distinct from other Cash Money rappers. With Tha Carter series he now has something to prove, as his delivery, and flow have all improved. His metaphors are good too you just need to understand them. After the Carter II he flooded the game with mixtapes. Now hes back and better than ever!!! For people saying they don't like his girl tracks, get over it nobody can talk about the fellas all day. Girls can do way more for you anyway. For those who don't like his topics changing up. Get over it, creativity is the making of a truly good MC. For those who don't like how he talked about Al Sharpton. Well me neither, but it is his opinion. All in all Carter III is classic (at least to me). Congratulations Weezy and keep them coming!!!!!!!
