Free Music Notes for Place Between PlacesFree Music Review: Inspired Hit: 5 StarsThis is an inspired, genre-defying album that takes you on a journey from the dance-worthy to the divine. The licks are lush, the vibe worldly, the melodies other-worldly, the ideas timely -- the totality of it is somehow hypnotic and regenerative. This album just might have the power to heal. And check out Lili Haydn live if and as often as you have the chance -- she's a force of nature on stage.
Free Music Review: Very interesting and captivating Hit: 5 StarsI first heard her while roaming around in a Borders store. I took a chance, and I'm glad I did. This isn't the first time that a classical violinist has been combined with rock...Lorenza Ponce comes to mind.
She has a sweet voice, but the violin remains her primary instrument. There are times when her violin playing sounds like guitar solos! Now, if only people can break out of their prejudices against violins in rock!
Free Music Review: Interesting, but Could Be Better Hit: 3 StarsI bought this CD because I saw Lili Haydn on "The Tonight Show" and found her music interesting. I had never heard violin used in rock or alternative music, and I had never heard of her before.
I like "Strawberry Street" (the one she performed on "The Tonight Show") the best, as it is upbeat and the violin adds an Asian flavor to the song, but overall there are only a few songs on this CD I enjoy listening to. The use of the violin is unique, but some of the songs are monotonous, and she doesn't seem to have strong vocal ability. I am interested in hearing more from her, though, and with the right material she could go far.
