Free Music Notes for Broadway, My WayFree Music Review: Her Best Album Since "And So Much More" Hit: 4 StarsThere's no doubt Linda Eder has a marvelous voice. However, most of her solo albums have left me cold. It seemed she was trying too hard to be the next pop diva instead of concentrating on what she does best: Broadway and jazz.So I was pleased to see her return to Broadway material in this, her newest album. It still isn't quite as engaging as "And So Much More," but if you prefer Linda singing material that actually shows off her voice, you'll like this album almost as much.
Free Music Review: I was hoping for more... Hit: 2 StarsI found this CD to be very satisfying as well as terribly frustrating. Linda Eder is probably the best singer working today, and with the variety of music she has recorded in the last 6 or 7 years, she has proven to be very versatile in the kind of music she can sing. Since most of her recorded music has been written by her husband, composer Frank Wildhorn, I was really looking forward to her interpretation of classic Broadway showtunes. Therefore, I was really disappointed to find that FOUR of the thirteen songs were songs she had already recorded on previous albums! "Gold", the title song of her last album which was only released about a year ago; "Unusual Way" and "Man of LaMancha" lifted directly from her "It's Time" album; and "A New Life" from Jekyll & Hyde - How many versions of this song is she going to record? This is the third that I know of, not counting the upmteen releases of the score! Of the remaining 9 songs, "Anthem" is probably the worst song she could have picked from the show "Chess", and "Some People" just doesn't work in her interpretation. Does she have an incredible voice? YES! Her rendition of "I Am What I Am", "I'll Be Seeing You" and "The Impossible Dream" are the definitive versions. But most of this CD seems like her attempt to prove over and over how long she can hold a note. With the limitless choices she had in recording an album of Broadway music, I was expecting much more from her. Maybe she should just stick to Frank Wildhorn's music after all.....

Free Music Review: Not too impressive Hit: 1 StarsOnce again, I heard Linda Eder live on 3 occasions, while promoting GOLD and also on a PBS special with Danny Rodriguez, the cop that sings. I'm being dead serious, I really do not think Linda Eder is such a fantastic singer. She is "ok", but nothing extraordinary like people say here. I even think Celine Dion is more dynamic vocally. Please do not compare Linda to Barbra !! Barbra is in her very own legendary league.
