Free Music Notes for Broadway, My WayFree Music Review: She's got the PIPES! Hit: 4 StarsFirst of all, I don't really care for this style of music (I listen to Blues and some classic rock mostly). HOWEVER!!! This Lady can sing! Which is why I have picked up all of her CD's including the Christmas one and have never been disappointed. A decent selection of tunes, when played with volume make the hair on the back of my neck stand....... Think about that! Thoroughly enjoy(ed) this CD and will continue buying anything Linda Eder releases in the future. Cheers!
Free Music Review: A Campy Walk Down Memory Lane Hit: 3 StarsLinda's new album is really fun, tho a bit CAMPY with all the covers and impersonations! I think Linda needs an album of new, cutting-edge songs with fresh producers and NO SONGS FROM HER HUSBAND. It's odd that Celine Dion (another favorite)is so famous and Linda is so unknown outside her cult-like following. Linda, I am a solid fan of yours and am hoping that you come up with an album of ALL NEW MATERIAL that is cutting edge. While not as original as Barbra, Judy or Ella--you are superior to Christina, Mariah and thier ilk. Your time is now! Forget the Streisand stuff and carve out your own niche. All your previous albums are "covers" of other singers' songs. I keep waiting for you to breakout and take centerstage--like Celine. Dont pattern your career after Streisands'--she's in her 60's and in semi-retirement. Besides, Barbra has accomplished so much who could really come close. Celine used to sound like Barbra earlier in career, but now Celine has really gotten her own style and it's paid off! Again, Broadway My Way is good but it could have been so much better. Still, Linda's wonderful and I'm hoping your next album is totally original with absolutely no covers--pleassee!!!
Free Music Review: The Best of Men's Songs Hit: 5 StarsI have been a fan of Linda Eder's for a long time, and she never disappoints. What I really like about this CD is that she does traditionally male songs. "Man of La Mancha", "On the Street Where You Live", "What Kind of Fool Am I?" are all songs usually sung by men. As a woman, though, I have always enjoyed singing them around the house, and on occasion at piano bars. And now, I have someone to sing them with!!! Even "I Am What I Am" is fun and touching. And her cover of "Edelweiss" is pure magic. I wish more songs were written for women that sound as good and powerful as men's songs. Anyway, Linda Eder is great with any song. When she sings, she says it is a full body experience. Just to listen to her is that way, too. Keep 'em coming.
Free Music Review: Not quite perfect, but really good! Hit: 4 StarsI was so happy when I heard Ms. Eder had come out with a Broadway tribute cd. I love her other cds, but I know Broadway is her forte. While I was not disappointed at all with her voice, I was a little let down by the song choice. As has been mentioned, I felt a little ripped off by the shortened "What Kind of Fool Am I" and the inclusion of already recorded material. I love "I Am What I Am." That piece and "Anthem" are worth the money alone. I must admit to being annoyed by all of the comparison between Linda Eder and Barbra Streisand. Why must people insist on doing this? Can't two talented singers coexist without always being compared to each other? Why does the public always create contests?Anyway, good cd.
Free Music Review: Good album but NOT a Classic Hit: 2 StarsI eagerly listened to this album and felt it had some HIGH points and some LOWS. I adore the songs, "GOLD" and "Man of LaMancha"--there is alot of true singing there; Linda's high, pure notes are thrilling. BUT, I have to say (and many of the other reviews substantiate)there is too, too much "covering" of songs on this album. The Linda vs. Barbra controversy has gotten boring and old, but it smacks of truth: Linda deliberately brings this on with her "Dont Rain On My Parade" sung in her Streisandesque voice with the EXACT SAME ARRANGEMENT! Linda just holds the high notes a bit higher and longer. She adds NOTHING to the song. Same as with "Some People"--there is nothing new just really long, high notes held forever. Having a great voice AND having original creativity is what makes for a truly revolutionary artist. Linda is still struggling with this. Broadway My Way is a bit of this and abit of that--it's a work that's flailing to find it's own "IDENTITY." Linda Eder is technically, flawless singer who I admire, but as someone cattily commented: "She's the Queen of COVERS. Linda, with a bit of reflection and taking chances you can really become centerstage--I thought your "GOLD" album was very good--but there again, you covered Dusty Springfield's "Son of Preacher Man"--in a Dusty-ish type of voice. But, Linda Eder is here to stay and all her fans are lucky. Her Christmas album was phenomenal!
