Free Music Notes for Broadway, My WayFree Music Review: Finding her own voice... Hit: 3 StarsThere's no denying that Linda Eder has a wonderful instrument and I have enjoyed this collection of songs much moreso than any of her other albums. Sorry to those who believe otherwise, but no, Linda Eder does not have the talent of Barbra Streisand in terms of singing ability. She does however, have a smiliar and highly competent instrument. She has attempted to set her self apart by making definite efforts to reject a "diva" personality and she claims to be more content with a somewhat B rate celebrity status. Whether this is true or not, (since her album sales simply do not justify any claim to superstar status), is somewhat beside the point, she is at least attempting to create her own identity and that can only be good. What I think would be fun is if Linda teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys and cut an album similiar to Liza Minelli's "Results"... even the Pet Shop Boys consider it the best album they've ever created and they don't even sing on it! That album had a great cross-over appeal and many people I know who never cared for Liza, loved this album and had a newfound respect for her. It's clear that Linda has a large enough gay following (as do Stresiand and Minelli) and I think it would be a useful venture. I certainly do hope she continues to establish a seperate identity for herself, but should never stoop to demeaning anyone she is compared to. As far as I'm concerned, being compared to Streisand is about the highest compliment a female vocalist can receive.
Free Music Review: Some tracks are better than others Hit: 3 StarsThis CD is a mixed bag. Some of her renditions are superb, especially those of "I'll be Seeing You" an "In a Very Unusual Way" from Nine. However, do we really need to hear "Gold" again> (if this is the best song in Camille Claudel, we're in trouble). or "A New Life" from Jekyll & Hyde. Some tracks are mediocre and were better in the original. I think a live album should be the next step for Ms. Eder as you cannot hear the magic of her live performances on this studio-recorded CD.
Free Music Review: Not Streisand, but better than Celine Dion Hit: 4 StarsI've heard Linda singing "LIVE" on several occasions while promoting this CD recently. Mrs. Eder is good enough to be a good "pop" singer, but I never understood why people compare Linda to the one and only Streisand. Streisand has a one of a kind voice, and Linda has her own. Mrs. Eder's voice is somewhat "thin". I rather compare her with Celine Dion, but not the legendary Barbra Streisand.
Free Music Review: The Amazing Linda Eder Hit: 5 StarsLinda Eder has outdone herself with her newest CD. Broadway My Way is incredible! "Anthem" moves me to tears everytime I listen to it. "I Am What I Am" is a wonderfully rousing version. What a great job she does with "Impossible Dream" - gets me each time I hear it. "Edelweiss" is the most beautiful arrangement I've ever heard. I love everthing about this terrific CD, the song selection, the arrangements, and, most of all, the phenomenal voice of Linda Eder. Buy this CD, you'll be glad you did!!
Free Music Review: Just like you were there! Hit: 5 StarsLinda Eder has one of those powerful voices made for Broadway! She made great choices for this album ... some well known , some not so famous songs, but with her voice and her renditions, this CD will do well. I really loved Man of LaMancha and Some People. Great addition to my Linda Eder collection!
