Free Music Notes for Broadway, My WayFree Music Review: Broadway can't get much better than her way! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of Linda Eder's for about 9 years, and am impressed by her collection of Broadway songs done "her way". One of the best aspects of this CD is that she steers clear of the more mainstream shows that have been almost overdone and has reached back over decades of Broadway to present a variety of challenging numbers. I admire her guts in covering songs from male broadway roles, but even more I admire her treatment of them. Interesting is the pop version of "Edelweiss" - Broadway purists might not like this arrangement, but I think it's hauntingly beautiful. The slow, jazzy, breathy strains of "On the Street Where You Live" made me wonder if I was, in fact, listening to a song from "My Fair Lady", so fresh is the interpretation and presentation. So far tracks "I Am What I Am", "Anthem" and "Edelweiss" are my personal favorites, but there's something for just about every Broadway lover here. My only complaint is that 4 tracks ("Gold", "A New Life", "Unusual Way", and "Man of La Mancha") have been on previous releases. Great for those who are hearing Linda for the first time, as her renditions are stellar and worth having - I just wish there were 4 songs that I don't already have in my CD library (I'm a bit greedy like that). I'm already hoping that L. Eder decides to do more CD's like this in the future.
Free Music Review: Linda's Broadway Hit: 5 Stars
The release of Broadway, My Way brings Linda Eder right back to where I discovered her..on Broadway. The powerful I Am What I Am (from La Cage Aux Folles) leaves you wanting to shout right along with her... "I Am What I Am!" Gold (from Camille Claudel)is sung with such emotion that you feel as though Camille herself is singing to you, along with Anthem (from Chess) are nearly impossible to get through without shedding a tear. Two favorites from Linda Eder's "It's Time" appear here...the beautiful, emotional vocal Unusual Way (from Nine)and the triumphant Man of La Mancha (I, Don Quixote) gives off a heart-pounding energy. Edelweiss (from The Sound Of Music) is simply stunning, with Ms. Eder herself doing all backgound vocals. Don't Rain On My Parade (from Funny Girl) belongs on this album most of all, done HER way...no need to compare! A New Life (from Jekyll and Hyde) a beautifully written ballad by outstanding composer/husband Frank Wildhorn takes Ms. Eder back to her role as Lucy in Jekyll. Her soaring belt is amazing in this new recording and to think I thought it was impossible to improve from the original! Some People (from Gypsy) unlike any version I've heard, is plain and simple a fun track, makes you want to get up and dance! Broadway, My Way is a must for all Linda Eder fans; For all music lovers, this is a sensational album, a total package if you will!
Free Music Review: Broadway My Way Hit: 5 Stars
February 18, 2003 Linda Eder's latest solo album, Broadway My Way, is by far the most incredible collection of Broadway music I have ever heard. You won't find many of the same songs that have been recorded over and over through the years by other great female vocalists. What you will find are selections carefully chosen by Linda (some with a "little" push from her huge fan base!), each one being special to her in its own way. You will learn so much about what prompted her to choose the songs she did by reading her carefully prepared liner notes. Each arrangement has a special touch which makes listening a unique and new experience. The selections demonstrate how this amazing singer can move from the softest emotion-filled touch ("I'll Be Seeing You," "Anthem," "On The Street Where You Live," "Gold," "Unusual Way," "The Impossible Dream," "Edelweiss," "A New Life") to the biggest belt you've ever heard ("What Kind of Fool Am I?," "Some People," "Don't Rain On My Parade," "Man Of La Mancha," "I Am What I Am"). Without reservation, I highly recommend this album to every fan of Broadway music as well as to every fan of music in general. Linda Eder will not disappoint you with the incredible Broadway My Way. Congratulations, Linda!
Free Music Review: Her way...just like everything else she does! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is incredible. My biggest hope came true on this one when she recorded "I Am What I Am," and to have it be the lead track is simply awesome! I'd heard it done as a demo that someone from the Linda Eder website sent to me, but this recording is spectacular!Even though there is material on this CD that Linda has previously recorded, the new versions of almost every one of them is more mature and full-sounding than on previous recordings. "Gold," for example, gives you the feeling that Linda really IS Camille Claudel when she sings it this time, as opposed to when it was originally released (just a year ago). Although she swore she'd never record "Don't Rain On My Parade," here it is on track #8: a testament of how loyal Linda is to her fans! The jazzy "On The Street Where You Live" is sublime, essentially a vocal/sax duet. And I can't go without mentioning "Anthem." Not only does it take on an entirely new meaning when interpreted by a woman (in 'Chess' it's sung by a man), it means even more in a post-9/11 world. This track, along with "I'll Be Seeing You," and "Gold" brought tears to my eyes. Linda never ceases to move me. So put down that Celine Dion CD...hold off on buying Bab's duets CD...(unless you can afford all 3 then hey, go for it!) get your copy of Broadway My Way! You won't be sorry.
Free Music Review: A real surprise! Hit: 5 Stars
Sorry everyone, but had never heard of Linda Eder before finding "Broadway" in the classical music section of "Real One Player." It remains a favorite on ROP and also purchased the cd. The music and voice are great (others have said it better). Especially enjoyed hearing the music from "Man of La Mancha" having seen the musical many years ago, and with the recording buried behind the stacks of cd's. The title song "Anthem" from "Chess" is a defining opener.Reason for being on "Real One Player" that particular day was to search out any of G.F. Handel's music other than the great "Messiah" and "Fireworks." Old G.F. turned an interesting twist on opera creating the oratorio with great concerts of solo arias, supported by powerful orchestral and choral music for an English audience tiring of foreign opera (beginning in ealy 1730's). Without too much stretch we can come forward in time from one defining tradition to another, the very up to date Eder's "Broadway." Needless to say, on ROP, I found only Messrs. Beethoven and Mozart, but also Ms Eder, the latter making up for the total failure to find Mr H. Based on positive reviews "Storybook" appears another winner and we will also consider the Linda Eder holiday album.
