Free Music Review: The Stars are only for Linda
Hit: 2 Stars

I was GREATLY disappointed in this album. The day it was released, I rushed out to purchase this new broadway album from Linda. Little did I know, I needed to see the song selection first. Four of these songs, I already have. "Unusual Way" and "Man of La Mancha" were both on "It's Time" (a far superior album), "Gold" was on "Gold," and "A New Life" is from "Jekylle and Hyde." I was very upset that there were repeats like this from a broadway singer. Surely, out of all the shows from broadway, she could have found four more new ones, and spent the time in the studio recording them.

Secondly, the songs she did record new did not make me sit up and say, "wow!" "On the Street Where You Live" is not good. The jazzy version she chose to sing this to is just too long. "What Kind of Fool Am I" is good, but is SHORT. Only one minute long. Why is this even on this album? If she had to cut that many lyrics from this male song, then she shouldn't have recorded this. Also, "Edelwiss" is long and boring, as well. Overall, the tone and tunes on this album do not make it appear that Linda enjoyed making this record.

Now, let's talk about "Don't Rain on My Parade." I have no problem with someone besides Barbra singing this song. I've heard other versions that were just as entertaining as Ms. S. However, Linda has spent her career being compared to Barbra. I do not think she should have recorded this while she is still building an audience of her own. She should have waited another five or ten years before doing a song so similar to the person she is often compared to. She needs to establish to new listeners her own style. Not the style of a musical icon. Singing it live is one thing, recording is another.

I want to make it clear that I am a Linda Eder fan. I've seen her the two times she's come to Dallas the past five years. Live, she is amazing. When I worked for music retail, I tuned many people in on the magic that is Linda Eder. I've bought all of her albums, minus the first, and will continue to see her live every chance I get. However, this album was a disappointment, that I'm sorry to admit to.

If you want to truly hear what Linda is all about, buy "It's Time." To me, that has been her best album to date.

Free Music Review: Not Her Best
Hit: 2 Stars

I love Linda's voice. I fell in love with it when I first heard it, and I think I own every one of her recordings. However, this album fell FAR short of showcasing her talented and beautiful voice. I don't think it's her singing as much as the choices in songs for this recording. How disappointing! Half of them are made for men, and, sorry, but I prefer them to be sung by men. "Anthem" and "I Am What I Am" just don't have the same feeling when they're sung by a female, it doesn't matter how good the voice is. I really hated this rendition of "On the Street Where You Live." When she wasn't singing powerful male-originted songs, she was singing powerful female-originated songs. "Some People" and "Rain on My Parade" are very difficult to sing, and not exactly soothing to the ears to listen to. And then there's the repeats that are on other albums (Gold, A New Life, Unusual Way). The one I think I liked the best was "Man of La Mancha", which she also sung at the Broadway's Leading Ladies concert. Other than that, can't say that any one of these songs got my attention, at least not in a good way.

Stick to her other albums. Maybe next time Linda will stick to singing what she sings best instead of showing us all how "powerful" she can sing.

Free Music Review: Amazing........Linda Eder is simply amazing!
Hit: 5 Stars

Simple laymans terms can not convey the 'Voice' and the talent that this mere mortal posesses. At a recent NJ concert, Linda Eder mesmerized her fans once again with another outstanding performance. "I Am What I Am" is just that...she is what and who she is! Not only does she sing her favorite Broadway songs that are on the album, the team has added fan favorites such as 'Bring On The Men'---'Storybook'---'Havana' and the absolutely knock out pairing of "Losing My Mind/Unusual Way" to the show. It will leave you speechless.

For you Broadway Music Lovers, this is the CD you have been searching for. I personally have never heard a better version of 'Some People'. The same with 'Edelweiss' there are 35 backround layers of Linda Eder's voice on that track. I know it's hard to explain, but it sounds awesome!

What kind of Fool am I...I'll Be Seeing You...The Impossible Dream...Anthem...and the song that Linda's fans begged her to record, 'Don't Rain on My Parade' will satisfy your thirst for the old classics...done with a new twist.

With Linda Eder, her husband Frank Wildhorn and Nan Knighton working on a new Broadway Mucical, "Camille Claudel" the featured song, 'GOLD' is part of the concert schedule as well as on the CD. Also added to the concert is another song from Camille called 'Coming Home'.

I could go on and on with praise for this singer. I hope I have in some way assured you that acquiring this, or any of Linda's music will not be a dissapointment. She is simply amazing!

I'd like to borrow the final line from Linda Eder's latest bio and share it with you.

"Now is Linda Eder's time, and she's doing it Her Way!"

God Bless You Linda! Please keep the music coming! We Love You!

Free Music Review: Way Over the Top!!!
Hit: 3 Stars

As much as I love Eder's voice, I have to admit this CD is downright annoying at times. The vocal grandstanding is unnecessary as Eder's talent is undeniable.

The only tracks I like here are "I Am What I Am" along with "Anthem". Prior releases aside, the rest of this album is forgettable. In liner notes Eder admits her reluctance to record "Don't Rain on My Parade" but gave into demands of fans. She should have went with instinct and omitted this Streisand standard or least made the effort to make the song her own.

Better to buy "It's Time" or "It's No Secret Anymore" as these entries contain some of Eder's best work to date. If you want to some of her best Broadway stuff, make "The Scarlett Pimpernel Concept Album" and "Jekyll and Hyde" soundtracks part of your collection as well.
