Free Music Notes for Broadway, My WayFree Music Review: my taste, my ears Hit: 5 Starsalthough another sparkling review is overkill, Linda Eder can sing songs that others just can't match. One of my favorits is "I'll be seeing you" because she just sings it as written and does it perfectly, I get tired of too much personalization of a great song. Just SING IT. who cares who wrote what, Frank Wildhorn's songs belong on terrific albums by terrific singers (as Big Time by Lisa Richard). It is silly to compare singers, either you like one or you don't. On the other hand my ex-opera singing friend (masters U of Cincinnati) tells me Linda has the pipes to compare with anyone in her genre of music, ever. Her power and emotion are my all time favorite. When I saw the show in Cleveland, she sang don't rain on my parade, better than the recording, Babs would have been green with envy.
Free Music Review: Magnificent! Hit: 5 StarsShe is flawless! I think I LOVE her more than *gasp* Barbra!
Free Music Review: The best broadway singer ever! She knows how to belt um!!!!! Hit: 5 StarsIn my opinion this is the greatest broadway disk ever released in the history of mankind!! Linda eder has the voice of an angel and can be compared with no one! When you hear her sing it takes your breath away! She can sing the phone book from A to Z and also the yellow pages along with the area codes, zip codes, and time zones for all I care and it would be beautiful! And she would belt out the ending too with a long held out note for 20 seconds and with a big band ending too! But really, I think this album has it all! Don't listen to the negative people that are jealous that they can't sing like her. Linda has packed the album with quiet sentimental broadway favorites that she could sing to soothe even the most savage beast. And also sings broadway songs that MUST BE given a good belting,or two. If you want these sung with no feeling and emotion like a cheap no talent, no clothes wearing singer then you can go and buy some cheap album like STRIPPED by Christina. But if you want REAL music that has feeling and emotion behind it like she really cares about what shes doing THEN, Broadway My Way is the ALBUM for YOU!!!! This album is in constant rotation in my car and any other stereo I can find! I even have a copy for my house and for my car! Thats how much I love this album. If you love broadway classics and want to hear them by a true broadway star, then this album is for you. So if your ready for the most amazing Broadway album ever within the history of when the bright lights hit broadway then you NEED to buy Lindas album!
Free Music Review: Even more powerful voice on this album Hit: 4 Stars'THIS' is apparently my favorite Linda Eder album. She sounds stronger than before and her high notes are even more supported. Although Barbra Streisand is my #1 favorite singer, I try not to compare Linda to Barbra or Barbra to Linda. Barbra once made 'Classical Barbra', claiming that she did those Classical songs her way. And this is Linda's BROADWAY MY WAY.' She chose to sing those songs in her OWN acrobatic way, which I admit that I like very much. The only disappointment is that she didn't feature all new songs: just 9 new ones and 4 from her previous albums. Some might say that LINDA shows off her capability of holding high notes very, very long. But I like it. For people who are hesitating whether to buy this album or not, I want to tell you that if you like the kind of big songs that we have heard Barbra Streisand sing, you might like this album. Linda sings those big songs in her FULLY-SUPPORTED voice, not the so-called falsetto.
Free Music Review: Missing Something Hit: 2 StarsThere is something missing from Linda's intrepretation of these songs. I am a devout Linda Eder fan, have been to two wonderful concerts, think her Xmas album is one of the best ever, and "It's Time" and It's No Secret..." are two spectacular albums. So what is missing? Well, firstly the best songs on the cd are available on other albums, including her dashing "Man of La Mancha" from 1997 "It's Time"."Edelweiss" is a bright spot. But the perfect example of the hollowness of this album is its leading song, "I Am What I Am", seems to have been lifted directly from a soundtrack album-which doesn't work as a stand alone song, the emotion seems canned and rehearsed. Eder's tremendous vocal talent is evident throughout, but it doesn't thrill on this recording. Even the so-called Babs imitation of "Don't Rain on My Parade" disappoints most particularly when compared with Eder's live performance of the song(we won't even discuss Ms. S here). With only 9 new songs and most of those a disappointment I am shocked to find myself giving anything by Linda Eder a thumbs down, but this just doesn't merit more. Previously mentioned Eder albums will provide many hours of listening joy. But this and last year's "Gold" are truly disappointments. If you are looking for Broadway Intrepretations that work beautifully, see Audra McDonald's "Happy Songs" from 2002. While a notably different style of singing, Ms. McDonald's songs take on lives of their own both individually and within the album. Here's to hoping that Linda Eder can regain the magic of her late 90's recordings and performances, because the magic is gone in her last two recordings. The voice still sparkles, but the music feels flat.
